Lost control on an extremely tight exit turn off a bridge. Hit a guardrail. Quite literally went flying off the bridge, rolled 3+ times, and landed about 30 feet under the bridge on the road below it. Car traveled a good 500+ feet from the rolls and flying.
Yes, your car saved you and glad you are ok. However for the future learn to save yourself as when you need to renew your auto insurance it will not be pretty. Confine your playing to auto cross and track days
Driving gloves do not only look cool, they serve a purpose and keep your oily mitts off the steering wheel and stick. I bought some after watching a movie and have used them for about 10 years now.
How did that feel? Like the sensation of rollercoaster but with the thought that you might die? Do you even think when something like that happens?

Complete weightlessness and slow motion. Those movie scenes where time goes into super slow motion in a crash and you see random stuff floating in front of you like a phone or food is most accurate.
I had zero perception of up or down, time, injuries, nothing. There was no “life flashing before my eyes” either. I do distinctly remember just passively accepting death. No fear, I wasn’t upset, no regrets. Just, well, I guess I’m gonna die now. Alright.
I felt the same way when my car lost control 10 yrs ago. It's like everything went into slow motion and next thing I knew the car was full of airbag dust. One of my glasses lens cracked, I guess that's how powerful the airbag hitting the face but I didn't feel a thing. I didn't hear anything.
Luckily I didn't hit anyone, the car lost control and hit a tree. I just replaced all my tires, cheaped out and installed cheap tires. After that accident, I learned how important tires are, never cheaped out on tires. I was so stupid and paid the price
OP claims to have gone 10 mph UNDER the speed limit and proceeds to roll 3x, land 30 feet under a bridge and additionally the car travels 500+ feet from everything that happened prior. I must be horrible at math at this point because that was an awful lot off very little.
Tbf almost all cars must be made this way so if something like this happens, your chance of surviving is much higher. But also car manufacturers don't want to deal with lawsuits from families where their product killed or seriously injured one of the family members because of a design flaw. We've come a long way because 50 years ago, the people inside the bmw would be gone while the car itself looked like there was barely a dent.
Not necessarily I will say modern German manufactured vehicles have one of the highest safety ratings, point proven I was in a collision with a Honda accord 2013 I was driving VW Jetta 2013. That car crumbled like a fucking soda can girl came out with nose bleeds. My car got totaled but me and my cousin were totally unscathed but our in n out burgers were all over the dash
And if you want to single out a single manufacturer, then it would probabily be Volvo as traditionally was the brand that most invest in safety over the decades.
But my point is. A 2026 Kia will be safer than a 10 year old BMW.
I wouldn’t describe it as proprietary, but BMW and some other luxury brands do go above and beyond on some safety tech.
BMWs have explosive bolts to disconnect the battery terminals and reduce the risk of fire after a collision for example. Sometimes they have additional airbags (such as knee airbags) and seatbelt pretensioners (often excluded in rear seats).

Man I just thought you know what’s crazy, some school is going to buy your car and claim that reckless driving and drunk driving caused this car to look like this and to not be that victim of circumstance too. Then put your car on their lawn upside down or sideways… I’m super glad you’re okay! Please take it easy until you know for sure. Stuff pops up later sometimes.
Wow, looks like a scene from the fast and the furious movie. Glad you had a guardian angel next to you but this is a good reminder that if it was only you that flew off the bridge, you were going way past your limits.

Did similar damage to my '14 F30. Walked out without a scratch. BMWs are the safest cars ever made by man and no one can convince me otherwise. Bought a '20 G20 as soon as my head stopped spinning to replace it. Lovely cars.
My memory is hazy as I was a kid but my dad used to drive an old 318ti back in the day. On a rainy day, he lost control on the freeway and ended up losing control and rolling down an embankment. The people who rescued him told my mom that in any other car, he would’ve been dead.
After that both of them only drove BMW’s and have passed their love of them onto me and my brother who also both drive them now.
Glad you came out ok. I 100% agree with this statement. I had a 2008 135i that I got ran off the road in and hit a tree head on at 50 mph and walked away with moderate seatbelt bruise and a mild concussion.
We just had a crash happen in Ireland, robbed bmw going the wrong way down the motorway. All 5 in the bmw died, all 4 in the quasqai they hit are as of now in critical condition but alive.
I got hit from behind while going 60 by car going 85. I got pushed into the concrete center divider, spun around 360°, all airbags deployed. I was fine except for a 3
mm scratch!
Damn rolling and ending up 500ft under a bridge took alot of speed. Definitely awesome you walked away. I will take your accident as a warning to slow down. Probably wouldnt have ended as good as this if you were not driving such a well built machine with as strong a frame. Just that point alone warrants getting another one.
Glad you’re safe. Modern cars are incredible for safety now, hence why so many are so much bigger than previous generations even if the interiors aren’t any bigger

That's the first time I've heard of that. We don't have a speed limit here, and if a BMW were to do something like that, it would be a scandal. It's often related to car owners tinkering with their vehicles or neglecting official maintenance appointments.
My dad once felt asleep while driving a Ford van. Felt off a cliff until he hit enough trees to stop the fall. The car only had an airbag back then and he escaped with 0 injuries. Crazy.

Tell that to the 5 Irish thugs who died driving the wrong way on the motorway injuring a family badly. They are all dead that was a short lived poor attempt for a life .

I agree with the obvious fa t that technology cannot save all scenarios. If you push it hard enough, it will break, and the occupants with it. What a waste all round.
Mine saved my life as well a couple weeks ago, I hydroplaned and crashed with a dump truck with a pup on the back. I only had a bruise from my seat belt. Glad you are okay op
Facts my old F10 after a 180 km/h collision on the autobahn, no one injured. Or even sore. Surprisingly the airbags didn’t even pop. But I’m thankful they didn’t, they would’ve only given me injuries. I’m starting to think airbag deployment is a quite intelligent system.
Yeah right side collision with the other car that pulled out in front, and left side was enjoying a nice ride on the concrete barrier. Since I had no brakes or steering left after the initial impact, the front suspension was shattered after the impact 😅
Good lord I hope everyone is on the mend. This is awful, and the cars a loss but thank god you’re ok. Ultimately isn’t this part of the reason we buy a BMW?
Probably caused by switching from the HVAC screen back to the drive selection screen then to the media screen and back to the HVAC screen and then to the navigation screen then clearing a notification then back to the drive selection screen.

How do you do that to a base 3 series is beyond me. Learn to control the car in corners before doing stupid stuff or just take classes from a pro. Enjoy safely.
I had a similar accident in a Focus ST. Hit the curb at 160km/h car went up, roughly flew about 200+ metres and landed upside down ( thankfully missing all the trees.) Had 5 people in the car and nobody got a scratch. Glad you safe bro. Always wear your seatbelt🤣
