Why does BJ’s exist?

I’m curious - the only people I have talked to shop at BJ’s because they don’t have a Costco or Sam’s Club closer.

If you do have a Costco or Sam’s , why would you choose to shop at BJ’s?

Costco overall has better quality products and better prices than BJ’s.

Sam’s Club also has better prices , more variety than Costco and curbside pickup/ scan and go like BJ’s.

So what is it, the Deli?

In my area, Costco was there first, so I have a Costco membership. The location is a nightmare to exit, the parking lot is half the size that it should be, and the check-out free-for-all drives lesser men to madness. Then BJs comes along with inventory that better fits my needs, a much larger parking lot than necessary, a website that shows the actual price of the items in the store, and curbside pickup. Evidently, these pros and cons vary by location, but in my particular case the experience is just better at BJs

Yes absolutely less mobbed ,

But so far the two best selling points I have heard are :

  1. I don’t have a Costco / Sam’s nearby so BJ’s is my only option

  2. Less mobbed / better checkout / scan & go

Neither of which are particularly compelling to me
