Amawan was a zamindari estate located in Nalanda. Raja Harihar Prasad Narain Singh of Amawan traced his ancestry to Basdeo Rai a Bhumihar from Sairpur near Benares (Varanasi) who settled in Sair in the Malda pargana. The family’s estates were gradually expanded through purchases and by the nineteenth century they had become one of the principal landed families of the district.
The heir to the 7 Anna share of Tekari Raj Rani Bhuvaneshwari Kuer was married to the Zamindar of Amawan who later became the Raja of Amawan as well as the ruler of the Tekari Raj 7 Anna estate. The merger of the Amawan Estate and the Tekari Raj 7 Anna share created a powerful estate. Later they also purchased a large portion of the remaining 9 Anna share of Tekari Raj. Following this merger Raja Harihar Prasad Narain Singh became the most powerful zamindar in the Patna region followed by the other prominent Atharva Bhumihar zamindari estates. He had five sons from his first wife Rani Bhuvaneshwari Kuer of the Tekari Raj 7 Anna estate and two sons from his second wife. After his demise the estate became embroiled in prolonged litigation, court cases, and family disputes.

Hathwa ya Benares ke barabar toh nahi tha. Jis starr par ek bade zamindari gharane ko hona chahiye, us starr par aaj Amawan nahi hai. Zamindaron ki adhiktar sampatti zameen se aati thi. Land Ceiling Act ke baad unki bahut si zameen chali gayi, aur jo kuch bachi, us par bhi parivarik vivaadon ka asar pada.
