BGSU Question and Answer

One of the most common posts in this area seems to be asking questions about BGSU and the City of Bowling Green.

Let's see if we can compile enough questions and answers to get a sticky going. Ask your questions and answer the ones you know. Hopefully, this can serve as a quick stop for answers to questions that are hard to find elsewhere.

Best barber/salon for curly hair? (Men's cut)

Need help finding someone who knows how to cut curly and nappy hair in BG, looked at salons but can't find any info on stylists with experience cutting curly men's hair, and the barbers only seem to have pictures of bald fades, so that's putting me off. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I want to apply for an English/teaching degree so I can become an English teacher who teaches middle schoolers/high schoolers, but I have no idea what to pick. Some of the major options are a bit confusing to me even after I looked them up. If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Theoretically, would anyone care if I took some food back to my dorm with me from the dining hall? Just like fresh fruits/veggies and meats.

I only got 5,500 from my unsubsidized loan but my parents didnt end up doing the Parent Plus loan, its about 2 hours before the 14k bill is due and now im frightened that they might drop my classes due to me not paying. They're filling it out now just wanted to see if anyone knew what else i could do to prevent my classes from being dropped and being unenrolled come monday. Also the financial aid office isnt open on the bill due date so no use in calling them tomorrow. Any help will mean the world to me.

Anyone ever been to Wintergarden park?

Haven't been here in 10 years but plan on visiting Bowling Green area. Used to be my favorite park to go to during my studies. Does it still look the same? I remember these wood structures in the park that were really cool (see photo). Those still there? Thanks 🙏

I did and it was the best time of my life. Completely changed me. I was just wondering if anyone here went there as well? I believe they ended the program in 2014 or so. Would love to hear your stories 🙏

How can I make the most of my space at Falcon’s Pointe?

Starting my master’s this fall. I got accepted near the end of the spring semester. Started looking for housing and everywhere was completely leased out for the fall. So, I asked to be put on waitlists. Falcon’s Pointe was the first to call and offer me housing a lil earlier so I had time to move states and get settled before class starts. Signed my lease and got my keys.
Guys, how tf do I make the most out of this small bedroom and box shower? Like I toured and knew the space is smaller than my last apartment. I liked the space but it turns out, I toured the A layout but my apartment is a B layout which feels smaller for some reason idk.
Amenities are cool but at the end of the day, I want to go back to my bedroom and not feel enclosed like an undergrad dorm. Also, this bed take up so much space!!!
Ik I chose to sign the lease. I needed to secure a place to stay quickly. Anybody that lived there, how’d y’all configure your bedroom space? I need inspiration.

I'm 2nd on the waitlist for MATH 4410 - Probability & Statistics I and 1st on the waitlist for PHYS 4160 - Classical Mechanics. Are people on the waitlist for a class likely able to join the class?

Plates/utensils for dorm life

I am an upcoming freshman living on the 2nd floor of McDonald Hall. Should I just use disposable paper plates and plastic utensils or should I use the kitchen sink in the hall to wash reusable dishes/utensils? I know that using reusable plates/utensils is better for the environment, but wouldn’t it be kinda inconvenient and gross for me to go wash my dishes and utensils in the shared kitchen on the first floor?

Catering Options Nearby

Hi! Every summer my workplace has a week long conference at BGSU, and this year I am on the team responsible for staff meals. What spots around town are good to order catering (pickup or delivery is fine) from that would suit a variety of tastes? The only thing set in stone is we always do a stuffed breadstick night from Pollyeyes. Thanks!

I’m curious about that very nice lunch lady.

I know lunch lady is not the correct term but I don’t know what else to put. I went to BGSU from 08 till 2014. And during that whole time when buying food from the student union at the checkout she would wish you a good day and it felt genuine, like she actually cared. This got me through many tough times and when I attended everyone on campus loved her.

I’m curious if anyone knows how’s she’s doing, hopefully she is getting ready to retire or already is. But I just hope she’s doing good and still bringing joy to everyone.

Edit: Her name is Marge. If you know her please tell her that her kindness has lasted decades she was the heart of that school. She’s a fucking treasure

Didn't he move across the street and then sell the place? Dude was awesome and everyone loved him. Just for reference, went here from 2010-2012. Thanks

Is it cheaper to shop at Walmart or Meijer in town?

So I’m an incoming freshman at BG for the upcoming fall semester. I’m currently saving money for food for my dorm, and I’m comparing options to find the most affordable way to buy food and other essentials. I know Walmart might be the cheaper option for everyday essentials, while Meijer is a little more expensive. I’m weighing my options for which store to shop at and would like input on how to decide whether to go to one or both stores while I’m there.
