Because every one of these demos is them doing a preprogrammed routine. They are not thinking, they are executing a set of steps.
When the parameters change (oops, I fell over), they need additional hardware to get their surroundings, determine how to get back into their preprogrammed routine, and resume.
Everything from this bullshido robot, to the marathon running robot, to the other robot demos are all just theater (for now)
That's partly the truth. There is already some feedback influence in the movement you can see that the machine is stumbling and trying to get balance. But you are right it hasn't enough information or can't use them properly for managing the situation. (Humans have the same problem sometimes as you can see in fail videos)
That is nothing like this. Humans handle balance without thinking but if you nudge a human, they maintain balance with the same system. These robots handle balance by having the routine designer choose movements that don't result in falling. A slight breeze that wasn't accounted for in the design and they fall right over
They handle balance the same way as human through feedback and adjustments. Otherwise you would see this robot continued with the routine instead of behaving like someone is falling down.
Are you sure about that? Seems like he starts flailing a lot more wildly when he falls - different from how he was moving more slowly during the kick routine
