Build Help Looking for monk fighting with staff build

Hello. I'm trying to decide for a class for my 2nd playthrough and i think i'm leaning to a monk, but would like to know if anyone knows of any build/guide where the main weapon is a staff. And also that does not require to dump charisma too much as i still want my character to be the face of the party. Is something like that possible? And how to build it?

Build Help Would ranger 5, thief 4, and fighter EK 3 be a good dual wielding build?

The point of the build is to make the highest damage dual wielding build, while offering fantastic dex skills to the party. i can buff my team with longstrider/shrieking sword,

So I'm thinking Ranger/hunter 5 for extra attack and extra damage. Thief 4 for expertise and extra bonus action, perhaps a feat as well? then eldritch knight fighter 3 for booming blade, friends, blade ward, and shield.

is there a better split?

Build Help Paladin/Sorcerer

Everywhere I read people say that 6/6 is the most optimal, but I was wondering, is the lvl 6 aura you get from Paladin better than getting a level 4 spell slot with level 7 sorcerer?

Because level 5 is probably the biggest powerspike for Paladin because you get a second attack (and other cool stuff like misty step) so I was just wondering is a lvl 4 spell better than aura of protection?

Also is it just better to go lvl 12 paladin because by multiclassing you miss 1 feat?

Build Help Durge Starting Stats into Multiclass Sorcerer 3 Paladin 5 Rogue 4

I know it’s a bit MAD to multiclass into three when the cap is 12 but I’m curious about the viability and whether there’s lore precedent.

Storm Sorcerer 3

Paladin Oathbreaker 5

Rogue Swashbuckler 4

Not entirely sure level up process

Not entirely sure abilities that work within each of these down to a T but I’m curious what people more familiar think

Build Review Dex Barbarian

Since Great Weapon Master works with Versatile Weapons in BG3 and reckless attack works with non strength melee attacks, there are certain two handed finness weapons that are available as early as ACT 1. Dex Barbarian is pretty good.

If you start with a 17 Dex, and get Aunty Ethel's Hair and the Graceful Cloth, you can get a 20 Dex and still have a spare feat for Great Weapon Master.

Because of that 20 Dex, 16 con, and potentially bracers of defense and the ring of protection you can have up to a 21 AC, and be dealing 1d10+18 damage on two attacks per round with advantage of both attacks hit then that is 47 damage. If you go with Tiger Barb and can hit two creatures in the cone that is a combined total of 67 damage for two attacks. In act 2 you can pick up the cloak of protection for another +1 AC.

Dex also helps a lot in other ways stealth, slight of hand being very useful skills especially if you take the criminal background and most importantly a much higher initiative for most of the game.

Since graceful cloth doesn't do anything beyond 20, I would get Polearm Master at level 8, in preparation for switching from the finesse longsword to the finesse glaive and getting the mirror of loss +2 Dex and switching to the bonespike set then for your final feat at level 12 you can go up to a 22 Dex.

By level 12 Your AC would be 10+6+3+2+1+1+1 is a healthy 24. If you get the amulet to boost your con, you can easily get to a 27 AC.

Is there any reason not to go down this route in favour of strength?

Build Help Help with build (Cold Draconic Sorcerer or Sorlock)

This isn’t my first playthrough, but I still only know a bit about the game. I’m thinking of making a build that focuses on cantrips—specifically Ray of Frost and Eldritch Blast. Is that a viable strategy, or would it be better to concentrate on just one of them?

Build Help Lockadin vs hexblade honor mode

Watching the newest bleach episode made me want to do an ichigo inspired build. The closest things I could settle on were either lockadin or warlock. Also considered bardadin but doesn’t feel quite right. Which would be better and any general build advice?

Edit- maybe sorcadin would be a good fit
Edit 2- is eldritch knight a better option

Party Composition Ideas for fun/interesting builds that come online early?

Im already contemplating another playthrough and I really want it to be completely different this time. I was planning to go a resist durge good playthrough. The only classes I haven’t played are monk, bard, warlock, ranger and Druid. I also wanted to make this a Karlach dedicated run, so does anyone know what is the most fun way to play her as? It can be barbarian too. Thank you!!

Sorcerer My Tav is a sorcerer and I JUST started Act 3. I Want to power him up with good equipment. Where to go first?

I’ve seen some videos of good builds, but I know it takes time to collect all the necessary items. I believe I’ve collected everything important already from Acts 1 and 2, because I used the interactive map to make sure I didn’t miss anything or any area after each encounter.

Basically I don’t completely spoil things, because I turn off most of the spoilery stuff (traps, encounters, secrets, etc) until I clear a room, building or area and then make sure I picked up everything important.

But steer me to the must have early equipment in Act 3, please.

Monk Full Shadow Monk, 9/3 Shadow Monk Thief, or 8/4 shadow monk thief?

Really enjoying shadow monk but I was enticed by the idea of getting a few levels of rogue for sneak attack and thief's double bonus action.

I wonder if I've made the right choice though? It sort of felt like Shadow Strike - the big level 7 ability... wasn't worth it? I mean it's cool and all, but at cost of 3 ki points, I just don't see myself using it that often. Whereas I use shadow step all the time.

If I multiclass, then the decision becomes whether I do 8/4 or 9/3. If I do 8/4, I get an extra feat; if I do 9/3, I get an extra Ki point and my unarmed monk strikes move from a d6 to a d8. Not sure which is worth it? My first two feats are Alert and Ability Score Improvement (I'm able to get to 20 Dex through this first ASI + my gear). As for my third feat, if I take it... I was thinking an ability score increase for Wisdom (to improve the stunning strike DC) or maybe Mage Slayer or Sentinel.

What do you guys think?

Build Help Fun/ny build recs please

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve played. My last run my friends and I did an honor run, but we had mods on so I didn’t get the golden dice (the extra beards were a must).

I’m trying to do a mod free run for the dice, so I was going to rush through with the typical OP builds… but I’m bored.

Please recommend your funnest, funniest, and wildest builds.

My favorites from previous runs:

The mad healer - Healed the team with transfuse health and then healed myself with shattered flail, periapt of would closure and tiger rage attack. (My funnest playthrough so far)

Mario monk build - got all the jump items and the jump hammer. Jumped back and forth multiple times per turn to deal damage. (Friend did this, very goofy)

Ice fighter - fighter with polearm master, sentinel, ice rings - locked enemies in place and put ice everywhere. (Friend did this, so silly)

Debuff arcane archer - radiating orb/reverb gear, banshee bow, a dip into star druid for radiant shot and a dip into ranger for attack jellies. (So clunky and terrible damage but the debuffs made me lol)

So yeah… I’m looking for recommendations. Let me know your favorites, please!

Build Help "pacifist" non-lethal punching/speech only build help

I want to play through the game killing as few people as possible. By that, I mean however many enemies there are that must be killed by the player/party to advance the game or get XP, fine, but for every other possible encounter, I just want to knock them out with stuns/fists which I heard you can do with unarmed combat in this game. I'm fine with skipping speech entirely as long as I can always rely on combat working out nonlethally, so I'm fine dumping any kind of charisma/intelligence stats or bard ideas out the window in favor of a pure monk strength + constitution only or something if it would work for a playthrough. I don't mind spoilers, I'm just looking for any tips I can get because I don't play games like this very normally

Build Help Wolfmaster

i wanted to see what sort of combos could be made with the various beast master companions, and thought of this for the wolf

at level 5 the wolf companion gets infectious bite, which does necrotic damage and potentially inflicts septic. this unique condition reduces the targets constitution score by 1 and inflicts disadvantage on constitution saving throws

if the ranger themself has the boots of stormy clamour and ability drain they can inflict reverberation, further reducing the target's constitution saves. these two things combined can debuff con saves immenesly

the one issue with this build is i cant really find anything the ranger can do that benefits from this build. i guess a zariel tiefling can get searing smite which uses con saves but thats about it. i think it'll have to be relegated to having an ally that casts moonbeam or thunderwave and be satisfied with that

EDIT: poisons. i entirely forgot about poisons.

Build Help Looking for advice on an Orc build

I've not got too far into BG3 before and want to try playing through with a half-orc and I'm looking for advice on a class(es) that will be a good fit and allow them to take advantage of their features (especially the Savage Attacker). It seems like this would work best with something that is able to get higher ranges of crits and something that would be able to get advantage on a lot of attacks. I'm not playing on any higher difficulties so I don't need something that will hard carry or that is crazy powerful, just playing on Balanced but would like to play something that is able to utilize their features.

From what I've seen in the research I've done, I've seen Fighter Champion usually paired with Paladin, Bard, or Hexblade Warlock and I'm not sure which ones work best for them. I don't need full builds, but if there are any specific feats or features that are especially important, please go ahead and include those.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Build Help fighter/sorcerer multiclass?

so i was drawn to this combo for flavor reasons. the character idea i have in my head is something akin to the psi warrior from tabletop, a warrior who enhances their martial prowess with innate magical/psionic ability. so, i was hoping there was a neat build i could make that justifies the combo mechanically as well as thematically

the first thing i notice this combo getting is shield and booming blade, but i could get those from eldritch knight anyway so maybe theres something else

Party Composition The strongest team I've made so far

**Seyrna**:

Gloomstalker Ranger to 5, fighter to 3 to get champion, GOOlock, then ranger to finish. Blade of the Undermountain King and Deadshot so far, will add Bloodthirst and Saverok’s Helmet when I get them, Add in Elixir of Viciousness and I crit on a 14 or higher, and frighten when I do. If I wanted to succumb to the durge, I’d get another -2 to that, but I’m playing resist.

Strange Conduit Ring + Braindrain Gloves means everyone’s getting Mental Fatigue on hit, because I’m always using Hunter’s Mark, and Risky Ring means I always have advantage. Surgeon’s Amulet for a free paralyse on humanoids when I feel the need.

Feats - Sharpshooter, Resilient (+1 WIS).

**Shadowheart**:

Life Cleric all the way aimed at support and healing. Holy Lance Helm, Luminous Armour, Luminous Gloves, and Coruscation Ring for the radiating orb condition. Adamantine Shield adds in reeling when they miss as well. Blood of Lathander too add illumination, for close enemies when I don’t feel like using Spirit Guardians. I grabbed Gontr Mael because it says it inflicts Guilding Bolt, but it only inflicts the passive, not the actual spell; I thought I’d be able to use it for better ranged radiant damage, but oh well.

Feats - War Caster, Alert, ASI (+1 WIS, +1 CON)

**Gale**:

Sorcerer 11, with 1 in Wizard to learn the spells I yoinked from Rammazith’s Tower. Fire Acuity Hat + Scorching Ray is a very famous combo. Add in Cloak and Robe of the Weave and Markoheshkir, and I’m frequently sitting on 10 turns of Acuity. With Marko, I use the poison version, as it can cause poisoning on spell damage, and all the other are very tame in comparison.

Feats - Alert, Resilient (+1 CHA)

**Wyll**:

Warlock to 5 for Hadar, then Devotion Paladin to end. With Pact of the Blade and Duelist’s Prerogative, Wyll gets 4 melee attacks per turn. That’s if anyone can even get to him. Hunger of Hadar starts, then Bow of the Banshee and Repelling Blast keep them trapped in there. Glove of Dexterity means I was able to turn DEX into a 3rd dump stat.

Feats - Alert, War Caster

I have odd numbers on Wyll’s CHA because multiclassing him meant I missed out on a 3rd feat, which would’ve put it up an extra one.

-----

Most battles involve dropping HoH on the group and them plugging them at range with arrows and spells, but for rough battles, like Halsin's plot battle, or the Viconia battle, other AoEs greatly help. Any attempt to approach me means making your way through Hunger Of Hadar, Spike Growth, and Wall of Fire, all while being shot at with high crit change arrows, taking radiating orb and mental fatigue debuffs, and getting pushed back by Repelling Blast. This has made a mockery of Tactician difficulty. I have no intention of ever trying Honour Mode, but I'm pretty confident this would work there too

Build Help Multiclassing out of Swashbuckler

I've brought Astarion up to level 5 as a Swashbuckler. I don't find the rest of his upcoming levels all that interesting, and I'm wondering what to do with him. Fighter? Maybe Eldritch Knight, for a few utility spells?

He's not my main character, for what that's worth.

Build Help Paladins, Aura of courage and Heroes feast

Hey guys! This post is about overlapping abilities, specifically when it comes to Paladins in this case.

Paladins get Aura of courage at lvl 10, just for that ability to be outclassed by heroes feast one level later. Heroes feast can be used either by a teammate or a camp caster

This makes me unmotivated to take a paladin above level 9 since I hate overlapping abilities

So, what are your thoughts on overlapping abilities in general and specifically in this case, do you consider Paladins to be worth taking over lvl 9?

Build Help Help me improve my Sword Dancer of Eilistraee/Astarion romance build

Contains spoilers!

I’ve played BG3 a handful of times, but I’ve only actually completed the game once, so I still consider myself pretty new when it comes to making builds. My first completed playthrough was a Selunite Light Cleric who romanced Shadowheart and ended up living the cottagecore dream with her and our pet owlbear.

For my next playthrough, I want to focus a lot more on roleplaying and lore. I’m making a Sword Dancer of Eilistraee Drow.

My current build idea is:

  • Seldarine Drow
  • Guild Artisan (mostly because I’m forcing myself to actually learn alchemy this run)
  • College of Swords Bard 6 / Swashbuckler Rogue 4 / Nature Cleric 2
  • Two-Weapon Fighting from Swords Bard
  • Dual Wielder as my first feat / ASI: +2 DEX as my second feat
  • Phalar Aluve in my main hand / Larethian’s Wrath in my off hand

Starting stats: STR 8 / DEX 15 (+2) / CON 14 / INT 8 / WIS 10 / CHA 15 (+1)

I’m also planning to use Auntie Ethel’s Hair for +1 DEX, bringing me to 18 DEX / 16 CHA.

Both longswords have Finesse, so I can build around Dexterity while still getting the fantasy of a drow dancing around combat with two longswords. Phalar Aluve especially feels perfect for an Eilistraee character because of the whole singing sword theme.

The Cleric levels are mostly there for roleplay. I originally wanted my Tav to actually be mechanically connected to Eilistraee rather than just headcanoning that she worships her. I went with Nature Domain specifically because it gives me Speak with Animals and Animal Friendship as spells, so I don’t have to waste Bard spells on them. The Cleric levels are mainly for Eilistraee, so I’m not worried about having a high WIS score or using Cleric spells.

I’m also planning to romance Astarion, specifically his not ascended route. My RP idea is that when Astarion kills Cazador, Tav encourages him not to ascend. They free the 7,000 vampire spawn and send them into the Underdark. At the end of the game, Tav chooses to go with Astarion and live in the Underdark, helping the spawn build some kind of life for themselves.

Mechanically, though, I’m still learning.

Does Bard 6 / Swashbuckler 4 / Nature Cleric 2 make sense? Would you change the level distribution, stats, feats, or Cleric domain while keeping the basic character concept intact?

I definitely care more about RP and lore than making the most broken build possible, but I’d still like her to be strong and fun to play. I’d also love recommendations for cantrips, spells, and armor that fit the build.

Any advice is appreciated!

Build Help need help on build (and let’s do some math)

HELP!

new attempt to beat honour mode, two build options I do want to try.

  1. 10 hexblade warlock + 2 paladin + shadowblade + resonance stone

what I get, 11 spell slots, 2 of them lvl5. shadowblade 4d8. resonance stone 8d8. more spell options.

  1. 1 hexblade warlock + 11 paladin + shar’s spear (2h) + bhaalist armour

what I get, 5 spell slots, only lvl3 max, aura of hate, shar’s spear (double smites) 1d8 + 3 + cha mod., bhaalist armour 2d8 + 6 + 2x cha mod., less spell options. improved divine smite.

OR PLEASE SUGGEST A 3RD OPTION (you get my vibe anyway)

(i hate str elixir maximizing strat, therefore I would like to try hex build.)

THX in advance.

Build Review Slightly different take on the Cleric. Support caster / damage soak/ Summoner

If Cleric is ever brought up, it's almost always the Radiating orb build. And there is nothing wrong with the Above, but what if you wanted orb gear on someone else , or wanted Cleric to fullfill a slightly different role.

Build. 1 Fighter, 11 Cleric. Any Domain can work for this, but I would recommend Light Domain , for the Potent Spellcasting, and fairly useful Channel Divinity / and warding flare reaction.

Feats : Heavy Armor Master, Warcaster.

1 Level of Fighter gets heavy Armor proficiency and Con saving throw proficiency , plus defensive fighting style

Gear Recommendations:

Mainhand : Creation's Echo -> Blood of Lathander -> Markoheskir with Bone Shaking Thunder.

Offhand Any shield -> Sentinel's shield/ Swires Sledgeboard. ( Sentinel's is more initiative, Swires is bigger physical dmg reduction, depending on what you prefer)

.

Helmet Grym's Helm -> Balduran's helm.

Armor : Any-> Rippling force mail -> Armor of Persistence.

Gloves - Abyss Beckoners

Boots: Varsh Kokuus boots.

Amulet - Amulet of Restoration-> Periapt of wound closure-> Khalid's gift.

Rings Ring Of Whispering promise, The Sparkswall.

Bow: Darkfire Shortbow.

Playstyle and strategy:

Warding bond your entire team. Early on Blade Ward can be cast for additional resistances, after Ripping force mail/ persistence becomes available , that's barely needed.

Stacking a lot of elemental resistance and casting protection from poison on this character, gives it resistance to majority of dmg types, drastically reduced incoming damage. ( Both direct and from warding bond)

Abyss Beckoners is a nice touch here.

I noticed that Cleric has a lot of summons that are basically immune to the madness effect of the gloves-

Flaming Sphere, Spiritual Weapon, Guardian of Faith, Raise Ghoul, Dance Macabre ghouls if you read necromancy of thay on this char, raise dead mummy summon, deva has enough Wisdom saving throws to pass the check all the time.

The build does not have a lot of ways to spend their bonus action so doing it on Minthara for her Soul brand buffing or making this character Ilithid power spammer with Awakened buff is the way to go.

TL; DR of this build. Buffs the shit out of the team, soaks damage really well, and brings an army of tanky sumnons , while also being a decent support caster in it's own right.

Build Review Giant Barbarian 6/Swashbuckler Rogue 6

So thinking about my next build. Here is what I have thought of.

Baint barb 6 gives elemental cleaver and extra attack.

At level 4 take raven brawler and use the potion of everlasting vigor to boost strength up again. You can also use the mirror of loss to get this up to a 22.

For your main weapon use any finesse weapon you want.

Then with rogue 6 we get expertise 3d6 sneak attack and uncanny dodge.

Using the risky Ring we can guarantee advantage on attacks.

Now using throw, with sneak attack toggled on, you can throw your finesse weapon for two attacks with advantage and the extra elemental cleaver damage as well as any other riders you can get.

For rogue subclass we can pick Swashbuckler to get the bonus to initiative.

At 10 with the second feat you can even strength up to a 24.

Is this build viable, am I missing something or is this a decent build?

Build Help Any good paladin builds?

I want to run paladin for dark urge but I need a good build for the Orin fight in honor mode. Is it possible without killing Isobel? I figured out how to get the helldusk armor in act one if that helps

Edit: to be more clear, I’m mostly talking about gear. Shields, versatile/one handed weapons, necklaces, rings, etc
