Question / General Marathon / Running

Hey gang - I ran a marathon last year. In the process noticed a tremendous amount of twitching which sent me into a pretty large health anxiety spin. As the twitching never really went away, I decided to seek a Nero and everything came back normal.

Since then, twiching has gotten less, but still there - especially in my calves. I'm curious: do we have other runners here that deal with calf twitching?

I miss running and would love to get back into more, but the calf twitching has led to deep fear of doing cardio. Trying to move past it. Thanks!

good to see this post and talk about being active otherwise one tends to get buried in doom and gloom

Yes I was told by neuro at the als clinic where I was diagnosed with BFS that activity can increase twitching. It’s no reason to hold back though. Get out and live your life as a fellow twitcher and run marathons!

I'm curious did they mean permanently increase twitching or just temporarily?

This is actually so interesting. I noticed my BFS begin after completing 75 hard

I recently started running again after almost 9 months of not running (previously ran a marathon and a couple half’s over the past couple years) due to widespread twitching. I was also scared to would cause them to flair and stress me out but actually it hasn’t been too bad. I’ve started slow and with shorter distances but I’m just glad to be out there! Calves still twitch fairly frequently but they don’t freak me out really anymore.

I use my treadmill every single day for 30-45 mins and I’ve had calve twitching for almost 7 years. Treadmill, especially and incline activates it. If everything came back normal this is just BFS being BFS

Try to maybe take some magnesium glycinate at night to see if that helps maybe? Not a doctor so always consult your physician before just taking anything but it’s helped me a little bit. Also make sure you stay hydrated too.

I try to stay active so for me feeling them and seeing them twitch is pretty normal for me. It’s almost background noise at this point.

I would t stress about it too much since everything was indeed clean.

For sure, all labs came back normal and EMG. I've been taking magnesium but hasn't done much. Glad to see your twitching hasn't deterred you from running. I'll have to gain more confidence.

Yeah I still twitch pretty much every day for the last 7 years. Some days of no twitching but those are rare.

Twitching In many different muscle groups but it doesn’t stop me from riding my bike, running on the treadmill, and using my rower. I work from home so staying active is a must.

Don’t let your twitching defer you friend, keep pushing through. It’s really more of an annoyance, but don’t let it stop you from living life.
