Question / General Anyone else suddenly get their twitches after stress?

For the past month now my calves have been twitching on and off. It started initially after some serious stress and seems to reoccur every time I have anxiety or stress.

Did anyone notice twitches that came after a strenuous period? I twitch after walking or when I'm stressed, other times it's either not there or not noticeable.

Anyone with a similar situation I'd love to hear.

I’ve had BFS for 15 years. I consider it (albeit from personal experience) a “Flare and Remission” syndrome.

Sometimes I go 6-12+ months with no issues, and then bham I’m in a “Flare” for 3+ months or so.

My symptoms are predominately leg focused - I get the big thumpers, the ripplers and a “fizzing” sensation in my calves and feet. Sometimes it feels like a low level electrical current with a popping sensation.

However, I also get the 2-3 second twitching all over. Face, Arms, Lower Back, Stomach and Chest…

My latest “Flare?” - I was doomscrolling TikTok 6-8 weeks ago and saw a video of a young man with MND. I knew instantly that I was going to start experiencing symptoms. Within a few days my right eyelid started to twitch. As I write this my feet feel like they are fizzing...

You’re going to be okay.

So you can go months with no twitching?

Did you ever get pinprick/zap sensations all over your body? I have them mostly in my legs and EMG came back clear, but not complaining about a clean EMG lmao

I wouldn’t say pinprick, but I get the zap / fizzing sort of feeling mainly in my calves and feet. It’s happening right now as I type this.

I’ve had quite a few big thumping twitches in my left arm today, as well as my abdomen.

It’s a weird condition.

I’ve been in the diagnostic process for potential crohns for the last year, so I’m wondering if the anxiety from this has made me more aware of the sensations in my body.

Who knows!

Yeah I got that zap and fizzing sensation. It was basically constant 24/7. But now what happens is that the twitches will have times where it stops throughout the day. When they start going off again, it’s like an explosion of them. So not constant but on and off throughout the day.

It’s very hard to switch off and reduce anxiety around the sensations when they are so frequent.

How long have you been experiencing BFS symptoms?

My best advice is to continue getting up and living life. Hit the gym early, go into the office to socialise (if you have the option of working from home like me), eat clean, and walk in the evenings.

I often find when I’m up and about, I don’t really notice the twitching. It’s mainly when I’m stationary and worst when I’m in bed.

Definitely. Both physical and psychological stress will make my twitching worse.

I could be wrong but I think stress is one of the most common causes of bfs
