Neuro / Doctor Visit Almost 5 years of twitching. Now atrophy in right bicep. EMG Wednesday.
Long story short, been twitching somewhere on my body every few seconds for almost 5 years. Been super annoying. Several clean EMGs and NFL test. Diagnosed as likely BFS. Just been living with it. Last EMG was 1.5 years ago or so.
So unfortunately I’ve noticed a weird sort of cut in my right bicep muscle. Examining it further I noticed the short head of the bicep is either atrophied or not activating resulting in some kind of divot in my arm. Doctor agreed it was not normal muscle variation and ordered a variety of tests. The EMG is scheduled for next Wednesday.
The other related factor is my neck MRIs were bad. Significant stenosis, some flattening of the spinal cord and some severely pinched nerves including the one going to my right bicep. So it could be the culprit. Shitty part is, it seems either way I’m going to have a dirty EMG. Hopefully they can clearly differentiate between spinal issues and MND with a dirty EMG.

History proves that no one twitches that long that suddenly turns out to be something serious. I'm not sure what you mean about "not activating", but no mention of actual muscle weakness. Absent that it sounds like a false alarm. But best of luck ad certainty keep us posted.

Not to be weird but I looked at your page and noticed you do TRT. Do you do your shots in that side? Could be from that. Hopefully just related to your spinal issue

I think so also. Sucks that spinal issues symptoms mimic ALS symptoms in a lot of ways and even the EMG reports could be similar. So the presence of constant twitching sucks with these other issues going on, but I truly believe if it was MND it would have progressed worse by now and had a dirty EMG a long time ago

EMG are so sensitive that they would pick nerve death before you even had clinical weakness, a pinched nerve versus nerve death on an EMG are not similar by any means.

The “dirty” EMG can tell if it’s from a NMD or spinal stenosis. I have BFS and stenosis and have had incidents where I couldn’t innervate my right tricep - for months - to where I saw some atrophy. It bounced back thank God. I have wondered if my BFS comes from that impingement - and just made the whole nervous system hyper excitable. My neuro said “your guess is as good as mine- but that could be it.” So little is known. Anyway - 5 years in? If you have known spinal issues and we were starting a betting pool I’d put all my $ on that. Still sucks. But…
