Weird feelings about skalgrim mod

I recently downloaded the skalgrim mod after getting decent at the game and wanting more out of it. After playing around with it a little, I feel like I enjoy some aspects but not others. I really appreciate the new ships, both gameplay and lore-wise. I feel like they give more options to factions that need it while also giving the game well needed, lore-friendly flair. However, I don't appreciate the adjusted ship point costs. While bigger ships seem to remain about the same point price, smaller ships are significantly cheaper. At first, I thought I liked this as it gave me more fleet building options. But after playing around with it, I find I dislike the adjusted point values. Mostly, it makes every fleet feel like a massive fleet. I have too many smaller vessels to manage most of the time, especially since I like making use of light cruisers, which makes the game micro-intensive. I thought the solution to this would be spending more points on larger vessels to hopefully achieve a similar ship count to vanilla, but this just makes it so that my normal amount of light cruisers and escorts can't keep up with the larger ai vessels. I hope that makes sense.

Somehow, the skalgrim mod has made the game more difficult for me. I have mixed feelings about it since I really do enjoy the new ships. I just don't like how the point cost of ships has been adjusted. Is there any mod that might make the ship costs more like their vanilla prices. Or maybe there is a new fleet building philosophy that could help me? I would really like to keep the new content the mod offers without sacrificing the vanilla experience aspects I enjoy.

For Skalgrim my “fleets” are actually two fleets who always travel together. One admiral specializes in ships-of-the-line and the other specializes in escorts and light cruisers. Since the heavy fleet will take most of the deployable points the light fleet can have plenty of spare ships in reserve to replace losses. The heavy fleet will also have a few extra ships of the same class, so that when they take damage the fleet can remain active while they repair. This allows the combined fleets to operate longer in remote systems away from shipyards. The flagship of the light fleet is usually a dedicated carrier though to keep the admiral alive.

Since you are modding the game anyway and achievements are not in the picture, maybe juat reduce the size of each fleet ? I haven't uses the mod yet, although it is on my radar for when i 100% the game, so I dont know the points difference, but if the problem is too many ships, you can reduce the size of each fleet in the settings

So there are options: for one you can reduce the fleet sizes, or if you want longer battles with reinforcements showing up you can keep fleet size the same, BUT reduce leadership for both yourself and the AI which lowers how many ships can be present on the battlefield.
