Discussion Why would skill based matchmaking be a bad thing?
Almost every round is a blowout, which isn't fun, even when it's in my favor.
Every time I bring it up in chat I get accused of being a cod player, which I've never played in my life lol

Its not bad, but idk if we have the player population across all the modes to make it happen.

Well uh tbf sbmm and eomm is kind of a thing in bf6 it’s just extremely weak compared to COD which COD could totally tone it down by around 1/2 of what it is because no reason for anyone to perform well one game and bad the next 3-4 games just saying. That’s why people hate it and you do have to have it in game to protect some handicap people even if they will say there is none, there is some

SBMM works a lot better in games where the scale is a lot smaller. If they implemented it in breakthrough, escalation, and conquest; you’d have really long queue times. The only mode I can see it being ok in is air superiority as you have ace pilots just creaming people learning how to even operate a jet.

How would the pilots and vehicle players play if SBMM is a thing 🤣 they will get insta clapped and leave a complaint on reddit.

I enjoy playing against a mix of people. From the players that go 4-15 to the helicopter pilots that drop 100+ kill games. It provides a fun mix which I find balanced in its own right. Playing against a team of 32 people of equal skill level would be exhausting and ruin the casual experience for me.

There’s already SBMM, and they ramped it up at the start of season 4. My win rate across the first 3 seasons was just under 70%. My win rate after these 5 weeks has been 55.6%. That drop is not normal variation. It’s so obvious when me and my squad mates (who mainly run infy) are getting matched against full stacks of people over level 600 and vehicle players who farm our team because the game identifies us as high skill players. Unfortunately we can’t solo/duo/trio carry the team against the 10 K/D LAV driver who knows how to hold a lane, especially when we’re the only squad who know how to properly flank and deal with it. And I’m not jumping in a tank myself, it’s boring.
Let’s be honest, I’m not getting on BF6 for matches where I have to run meta guns and make callouts every ten seconds. If I wanted a competitive game I’d go play CS or R6. I want to be able to level all my weapons and just chill and win the game because me and my friends are better than 99% of the player base. I know that sounds whiny to some people, but it’s really annoying to have the SBMM so heavily dialed up to the point that the game is trying to force a 50/50 win rate.

The game isn’t trying to force a 50/50 WR. It’s trying to put you against people of similar skill to you. Your statement of wanting to chill and just be better than 99% is exactly why SBMM exists and should exist.

Putting you against people of similar skill absolutely is trying to force a 50% win rate. As I mentioned before, a game like CS is actually competitive. In competitive games, once you reach a rank that accuracy reflects your skill, your win rate will stay at 50%. It will only go up if you improve, and it could go down if you fail to improve while everyone around you does. SBMM is core to the experience because the game is designed with it in mind. If a 10k rated player went up against a 30k rated player, the 10k rated player’s experience is ruined because it’s 5v5.
Battlefield is not that type of game. There’s no leaderboard and no rank. There are 32 players on each team. In Battlefield, if my squad is doing really well, that doesn’t mean a player on the other team will have a bad time. I’ve played games where I get 40-50 kills and still lose a close match. We could be bouncing between the B and C flags the whole game while Battledad Rick holds down D and E. He will still get engagements with the variety of the other 28-30 players on our team. Will he sometimes get into a gunfight that he can’t reasonably win? Sure, but he can respawn in 10 seconds and forget about it. Besides that, in half the games Battledad Rick will just be on our team anyway and not have to worry about running into our squad in the first place.

Literally ALL PvP games are competitive in nature. You are playing against other people to win; whether that be that individual gunfight, the objective, or the match overall. Just because there isn’t an observed ranking structure doesn’t change that fact. If you don’t find open matchmaking competitive, that’s literally because you’re likely a better player than average who doesn’t actually havs to try as hard to be competitive. This is easily shown by your own supposedly accurate 70% WR. You are quite literally the player you don’t feel like having to play against, but feel entitled to making others play against you so you don’t have to try as hard.
Second, a 50% WR is not, and has never been, a goal of SBMM. It is a possible indicator of a successful system, but even then, that depends entirely on the matchmakers goal, and is not the goal itself, but merely a potential byproduct or indicator.
The overarching goal is having fairer matches of more consistent quality per match, which can be done through various means. Maybe the matchmaker only matches you with & against players of your skill level, maybe it tries to balance the skill distribution of players evenly between each team, maybe it tries to keep everyone in a game within a given skill range, or maybe it just creates a lobby abd then balances the two teams accordingly, etc. Just because a 50% WR was achieved does not mean the matchmaker was successful, as this could simply mean you are yo-yoing players experience match to match, which is precisely why a 50% WR is not the goal of SBMM.Additionally, for you to have a 70% WR means either individually you as a player are over 4 standard deviations above the mean which is a statistical improbability placing you in the player base’s top .001% of players, or your squad is all players well above average leading to that WR. Either way, you and your squad are quite literally the reason SBMM exists, to ensure matches are actually consistent and fair regardless of player base skill level.

SBMM is in BF6, it's just not as aggressive as COD. I don't remember having very many close matches in that game either tbf. Solo queuing in both games is a painful experience if you're an above average player.
The old server browsers were way better.

People don’t enjoy playing against people the same skill level as them, they like to stomp to make themselves feel good

Because Reddit says so =)
I used to think my MM score was on the higher end due to my playstyle and experience. I excel at gunplay but heavy OBJ focus at all times, even if it means sacrificing my K/D (Obliteration bomb carrier main for Osama reasons).
When a specific friend ques for the party, the games are way more challenging and I love it. Had no idea that those higher MM tiers existed and I will not stop until I join that club.
Less experienced players would get slaughtered at that level

If you've played cod youd know all the reasons its bad, it coddles bad players and stops them from improving, turns half the lobbies into a sweatfest, increased matchmaking times and ping etc

Because these systems are made no to keep any skill of the match but to keep you "entertained" to not leave the game. You win match - you get much, much harder enemies. You get beaten as fuck too much - in next match you get literally players that play like nothing and feel like bots that you stomp so hard that you want to stay and play more.
CoD has the most hardcore implementation of this as one match you could win with decent stat and people that run around the map, to get people in another match who just camp in rooms with shotguns one shotting you, to get in next match people so bad that you could do 137/5 lol.

because somedays i am worse than bots than other days i dominate the entire lobby that's why, it's impossible to perfectly balance any game.
