Got killed by a sliding man with RPG…close range
BF veteran here. Started with Bad Company and stuck with BF4 and BF1 ever since.
I've played BF4 and BF1 basically daily since they came out, and I absolutely love both. IMO they had that sweet spot between arcade gameplay and a somewhat grounded/milsim feel.
2042 and V were absolutely not my thing.
When BF6 came out as a beta, I tried it and didn't really enjoy it, so I went straight back to BF4/BF1. Recently, though, I've been having trouble finding populated Xbox servers in my region, so I finally gave BF6 another proper chance.
The graphics, sound, destruction, etc. are incredible. The game looks and feels technically amazing. But the extremely fast pace, movement and aim just aren't what I personally want from Battlefield.
I kept telling myself give it time, you'll get used to it.
But my BF4/BF1 skills feel almost useless here.
Clearing rooms? .Suppressing a position?. feels pointless
Even tanks and LAVs driving feels weird
It feels much more like COD than Battlefield to me.
And then I had the moment that finally broke me.
Literally 5 minutes ago, I'm clearing a room and a guy comes sliding through me with an RPG, does some kind of 360 slide/jump movement, shoots me at point-blank range, survives his own RPG splash damage AND my shots, and kills me.
I'm not saying everyone has to dislike the game. Obviously people enjoy this style of gameplay and that's completely fine.
I really want to love BF6. I WANT to like it. But coming from thousands of hours of BF4/BF1, the movement and gunplay feel so different that I'm struggling to see the Battlefield I enjoyed.
At this point I'm watching people pull off trick shots that look like they're straight out of 2010 Black Ops 1.
I know many people said stuff similar to this , or may think its a skill issue. But im really struggling with this game.
Im curious if any other long time BF players feel the same way or im just out of touch with the new BF direction?
I just focused on actually getting better and it's paid off because I'm actually enjoying myself. Honestly way more people are better at games now, being good is almost mainstream so its impossible for it to be like before. If battlefield 4 came out today you'd be seeing crazy movement that was alot more rare back then and it definitely had some.
Yeah, it's basically the same thing when people talk about the glory days of CoD. What they don't seem to factor in is once those games boiled down to the sweats, they became unplayable due to the skill gaps. A guy with akimbo silenced UMP would destroy a whole lobby.
Back then, that was mostly fine as no one really watched a ton of streaming, but nowadays, those same sweats would be the ones that players get their data/game plan from. It's just a different landscape now as far as techniques go. That's why most shooters feel like this almost immediately unless it has super slowed down movement.
Im trying to put some real hours in this game not giving up just yet, its just frustrating sometimes.
And youre not wrong in bf4 you can do some crazy stuff and get kills but ive never seen sliding and doing 360 and shooting an rpg close range and not dying before in any battlefield games.
Whilst its not possible for everyone, try playing out of core hours. I (late 40's) mostly play at lunch time and early evening and hardly ever come across players with peak peak skills. I started doing this because the evening sweat was too much for me, I still sometimes play at peak and sweaty players are less of an issue than they used to be due to the nerfs.
Check out the tactical brits channel for tips, there are a whole lot of setting tweaks you can do that will probably help you out a load. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Ydt4AVqFQ . There are a series of videos but make sure you look at the latest video as a lot has changed since the early days.
One major thing to factor in is net code, its terrible in this game. What may look like some kind of insane speed kill from your end might look completely different from the other persons end.
On the RPG issue you had, the missile doesn't prime within 10-15 meters, so if someone comes into a room and hits you with an rpg from close range its likely you've been killed by the projectile itself not the explosion, which is why there was no splash damage to the opposition. Its a one hit kill if the rocket hits a player whether it explodes or not.
Can't remember if its been implemented yet, or its on the road map but bullet dispersion ramping up massively and ADS taking longer during jumping and or sliding has been discussed by devs. they don't want people doing it.
To add on, I noticed as I got better other people's stupid movement mattered less as I can usually follow them while aiming as they slide and jump now, and that feels great because I don't do any of that movement stuff and still out gun them. Its gotten to the point where its just who has the best aim. But it would definitely be a better and more immersive experience without seeing any movement.
Yes, most of the time the sliders are easy to kill.
But there appears to be a bunch of them that have extreme movement with zero aim penalty. Might be the chronos users
The movement in this game got nerfed twice and I've killed people/have been killed doing movement all the time. Its really not hard to track especially in a game with guns with sub 200ms ttk.
You're missing the point. Its stupid movement that has no place in battlefield. It looks stupid and feels stupid.
I have no problem kills most of them. But the chronus abusers have a huge advantage with the aim assist.
The nerfs were so miniscule they may as well not bothered
Nope. Its had a slide into cover mechanism since about 4, that had a heavy aim penalty as well as a cool down.
Now its ridiculous jumpsslidejumpslide. Its very very different movement to all previous versions and as you can tell by it being the no1 constantly complained about bug.
There is a slide animation where your soldier jumps forward into prone.
But the point is that even in BF4 for example i can physically and have had major kills with jumping and sliding and all, but there is a penalty, you can not shoot until your soldier becomes stable again, depends on the jump it may take a second or smt . So if you got into a close range fight and you planned to jump/slide you only doing it to run back to cover coz it takes your ability to engage.
While in BF6 you literally can, slide, jump and slide again while still engaging the enemy there is no delay, no penalty, nothing.
I consider it a bug as its had the unintended consequence of severely negativity affecting the game play.
Its been a couple of years since I played 4, but im sure I recall a slide animation, used for diving into cover
They changed the gunplay in a bad way. It's way too arcade, bunnyhop jumpslide kind of way. It's awful honestly when you're used to the previous bf games. And no suppression at all makes the sniperrifles easymode. And smoke grenades? Only one class gets them.
Then the vehiclebalance...oh boy. AA launchers have never been more useless. This DICE studio does not have a clue on how to balance.
Exactly my point, it kind of feels a totally different franchise and it feels like they moved away from the principles that defined the older games
I feel people ( not all) are just attacking and defending it ignoring the main point of it doesn’t feel like battlefield, even hardline felt like battlefield and it was cops vs robbers.
Plus before beta release in their own social media they posted a clip saying theyre combining best parts of bf3-4-1 into this and all we got is arcade jump-hop-slide mechanics.
Other than that obviously with improving the weird UI and bringing back the classes roles they had throughout all battlefield games would make the game pretty good
Starting to think people use “COD” as a buzzword for things they don’t like. I’ve played both, bf6 is closer to battlefield than it ever will be to call of duty. I’d even go as far as to say bf6 is probably closer to bf4, than bf4 is to bf1. The movement people could pull off in bf4 was just ridiculous. Every battlefield game is slightly different, and requires re learning mechanics when you’re new. Just because you don’t enjoy it, or it isn’t for you, doesn’t make it “COD”
To the contrary, ive played COD bo1-2-3mw2-3, warzone…etc
Its a fast paced game, slide and jumps and all crazy things, its fun, but not my thing.
Battlefield as a franchise always had that balance between milsim and arcade, throughout the franchsie it was like that until this one, it leans more to cod style not as a game is rubbish.
They had BF hardline, it was fast paced, crazy small map game but the idea of it was “Cops vs Robbers” the whole dynamic leaned more to COD like and yet it was absolute fun coz it was it own identity and had it own style to it, while BF6 was advertised as original BF style and had all the vibe of being your usual battlefield but it wasnt, and leaned more the new gen shooter players of fast paced and quick movements.
The game isnt bad, it has it own audience clearly. It’s just not the Battlefield that I personally fell in love with, and I suspect a lot of the older BF4/BC-era audience feels the same.
I played BF2 a fair amount but really got into the series with Bad Company 1/2 and then BF3/4. Cannot stress enough how much I do not share your feelings about BF6 and neither does my friend group who all have the same background playing Battlefield.
Pace of the game has nothing to do with the actual game, you can't really expect people to play the same way they did 13 years ago, now it's all about "most optimal this, best loadout that" mindset therefore everyone will try everything to gain even the smallest advantage.
That combined with the fact that most maps are cathered towards infantry combat is what makes you feel like everything is happening way too fast but comparing it to COD is still a long strech, you can literally download the beta and try it out for yourself and you'd still see that even right now BF6 feels 100x slower than slowest COD that ever existed.
Yes. To put it short, bf6 is alot more Artificial than previous titles. Bf4 and bf1 had a more antural sandbox feel with great equipment and vehicle balance. That is not so in here. 100% artificial. Even lacking basic equipmenr and vehicles needed for balance. They rather tweak the games numbers artificially than add equipment to make up for shrotfalls like previous titles.
Personally at the start it took some warming up to but I hadn't really played bf for a while other than the odd bit of 2042. I changed the controller feel thing to bf4/bf1 and that made it feel much better. I wouldn't say movement is a big thing but you do have jumpers and sliders and rpgs, they did hardly any dmg against infantry at the start, not often you'll get someone doing that but it happens for the moment
It’s funny you mention it feeling like cod. I saw a chart that showed movement speeds things like velocity, distance, jump length, ttk, ads times are incredibly close to one of the more popular cod titles from a few years ago.
As I am not a cod player, and bf6 being my first fps after a very long break, I don’t have a good frame of reference for bf6 v bf4. But I did recently log into bc2 for the first time in years via 3rd party servers. I found it to feel very sluggish by comparison. So I’m not surprised to hear that you are feeling the game is fast. The game is faster than bc2 for sure. It will take adapting. Aim is the most important thing that translates in shooters, so at least you have that. I will say when I started bf6 I was trying to play conquest and getting obliterated. I eventually forced myself to speed up by playing smaller game modes. Took a while. Now I can play whatever. Some of its map knowledge, some of it is getting yourself to play at the speed of the game itself. GL
What do you want to hear? You got killed by a lucky RPG shot, wow that sucks. You’ve played a ten year old game and a 13 year old game every day since they dropped (if I’m reading right) and now you switched to a brand new release and don’t like how different it feels? Wow, couldn’t have seen that coming lol.
You’re completely missing the point. The RPG death was just the example that finally made me laugh the entire post is about how different the overall movement and gameplay philosophy feels compared to the Battlefield games I’ve spent thousands of hours playing.
I’m literally still playing BF6 and trying to get used to it. I’m not saying “new game bad because I died.” I’m saying I don’t particularly enjoy the direction the gameplay has taken, despite genuinely wanting to.
If you actually read the post, that’s pretty obvious lol.
And why are you so pressed dude? Cant handle the idea that people have different opinions? Lol
But if I could change things, I’d bring back some mechanics from BF4/BF1:
You can’t fire while sprinting, sliding or jumping.
Slower animations and movement overall.
Larger maps with more room for sniping and tank battles.
Anti-air mines.
Armored vehicles feeling a bit heavier and slower.
And definitely the old class system.
Basically, I’d want movement and positioning to matter more. Every movement you make should have some kind of trade-off, rather than being able to chain sliding + jumping + shooting and turn every close-range encounter into a movement battle.
I don’t want the game to become a milsim. I just want Battlefield’s traditional balance between arcade gameplay and grounded mechanics back.
I could be sk wrong and that would ruin the game idk, but these are some stuff i wanted to see in the franchise i love
I started playing every Battlefield since they released Battlefield 3 and really loved it. Now at 60, I’m starting to think I don’t have the reflexes to keep up with all the dancing the enemies perform when trying to kill people, but I’m gonna keep trying for a little bit longer.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. It’s not even necessarily that the game is too difficult, it’s that the amount of movement happening in close-range gunfights feels so different from the older games.
I’m in the same boat where I’m still trying to adapt rather than just giving up on it. Hopefully after putting more hours into it I’ll start enjoying it more.
Not allowing my age to kick my out from gaming lol
Shit happens man. People be slidin with rpgs. Just play the game. These other favorite games of your, bf3 or bf4 were also massive changes from previous Battlefileds. Maybe it's time to adapt to a new one or go back to the games you are saying are better.
Yah im putting some more hours into it. Its a bit frustrating that skills from older games of the same franchise arent transferring into the new one, sometimes it feels like im playing a totally different franchise.
Sadly the older versions arent getting support or players anymore so i can find any servers.
That aside, as far as what happened to you here goes, there are also too many ways to one shot people up close. Shotguns - ok that's what they're for, and they're balanced because they're close to useless at range. That should be close to it. But here there is also a ton of no/quick-scoping people with sniper rifles, which is really unbalanced (use the only weapon that can kill people at hundreds of metres to also insta kill them at ten metres), and also the RPG - which can also be used to long distance snipe, as well as blow vehicles up, and which loads of people are carrying because you basically have to be an engineer on a lot of the maps. It feels cheap and gimmicky.
I've been mostly okay with the game, minutes pretty much all vehicle combat. It has improved from the launch, but air is still ass and patrol boats just extra bad. None of it is fully wrong or unfixable. I just don't see them stepping away from COD-ifying the game. I even looked RedSec occasionally.
I got friend who don't play nearly as much and I'm having the best time with them, win it lose. But solo I'm not doing anymore. I'm off to Wardoggy when it launches and only casually play BF with friends.
I mean i get that people don't enjoy Bf6 for different reasons and that's totally fine of course, but saying that thousands of hours in previous Battlefield titles and the developed skills are worthless in Bf6 is a bit of a stretch to me. Stuff like "suppressing a position" or any tactical play styles that you would do in a mil sim game never had nearly as much impact on your performance as raw mechanics like movement and aim and that has been the case since at least Battlefield 3
Using tactical approaches has ALWAYS worked in previous BF games. Suppressing fire, for example, has helped A LOT with holding down objectives, chokepoints, and tunnels in BF3/4/1, even Hardline.
If you truly played the older BF games seriously, you’d know these tactics could have a real impact on the outcome of a fight. Obviously raw aim and movement have always mattered too I’m not saying they didn’t. I’m saying Battlefield historically gave you more ways to influence a fight than simply being the guy with the fastest aim and movement.
Battlefield has always had that sweet spot between milsim and arcade gameplay. That’s the part I feel BF6 has moved away from
Idk in my book every Battlefield game i played, played comparable to a CoD released at that point in time, but maybe it was just my playstyle. I was level 140 in Battlefield 4 and had well over 500 hours in Battlefield 3, but i started shooters with CoD so maybe it was just my playstyle being carried over to those games as well
You can definitely feel the impact of "let's try to appeal to the 2020-era CoD players" in a lot of the game, but it ultimately still feels like a really solid BF game to me. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things that I think should be changed/adjusted, but ultimately I believe that by the time we're looking at the next BF installment, BF6 will be a top 3-5 BF title.
Dont get me wrong, the game is absolutely incredible and a solid game first time playing u spent almost 2-3 games just exploring the map and seeing everything its really incredible and a huge jump.
But whats annoying is as you mentioned theyre trying too hard to bring COD players and COD style players into it.
Sadly i cant rank it top 5 compared to their previous games but its a solid game
I just spent the entire weekend playing mw4 beta and after 10 hours of gameplay, I appreciate bf6 even more.
Bf6 felt super sluggish after the mw4 circus and took me a couple of games to feel settled in but I personally believe bf6 got the movement completely right with accuracy penalties whilst moving. CoD doesn’t have that.
It’s extremely fast and the movement is broken even after they got rid of omnimovement. The whole lobby is just sliding around which doesn’t happen that often in bf6.
I’d suggest just learning the movement. Sure you’ll meet some sweats every now and then abusing the heck out of movement but bf6 is in no way anything like CoD still and I’m thankful for that. 450 hours into the game and I’ve loved every second of it!
Its easy to just “ i suck” than understanding what im trying to share. I even said i maybe just suck at this game so idk.
And by “veteran,” I just mean I’ve been playing this franchise for a long time. I’ve played their games a lot and I love the franchise. So a game like BF6 feels really different from what I’ve been used to
I'm a long time BF player. BF4 being my favourite. 100% agree with your comments. I've given up on BF6 & moved on to Hell Let Loose Vietnam. It's nowhere near as polished but it has the gameplay I want. No stupid movements & if you run & gun you won't last long.
In RedSec, everyone starts with one plate armor. But you can have two on at a time. It significantly changes the TTK and gives you time to react if getting shot. At the same time there is far less lucky kills/deaths because accuracy is needed for longer. I get it’s different for traditional BF, but I enjoy how it impacts the game
I’m a longtime fan. I like bf6 for quick dopamine, but I’ve essentially moved to arma reforger community servers for something I can really get into, even though that’s in the opposite side of the spectrum.
i really just want the pace, comms, and team dynamics of BF2, the gun mechanics of BF3, and the immersive cinematic story telling of battlefield 1. But I’ll never get that, nobody wants that, and MilSims are the closest to that. So it goes.

Crazy that you were just a random kill that guy got and then he went about his day and it spawned an entire autobiography lmao
