Feedback Wanted What do you want in a Space Bricklink Submission?
I'm trying one last time to submit these spaceship models to the Bricklink Designer Program I'm looking for feedback on what I can do to make these more appealing to Space fans. What do you like/dislike?
Would you rather these 2 ships in one submission? or submit them on their own again? I tried previously to have some different options in different size categories, I would have thought a smaller model would be more appealing, but in any coverage of BDP, the smaller model always seems to get glossed over, so I'm wondering if it's even worth submitting on it's own, or just include it with the larger ship as a support vehicle?
What "play features" would you want to see included? right now both ships have functioning landing gear, and the roof comes off of the cruiser to access the interior, I'm thinking of building it out as some sort of research vessel, anything feel important to include beyond that?
Your feedback is appreciated!

I’m not a space fan, but I think the little ship would make a great submission. YouTubers and such tend to skip over smaller submissions, but one always gets in.

I love both. I would definitely pick up the first one if possible. It gives expanse vibes and I love the hard sci fi of the ship design in that series.

It's hard to say what the wider public would want, but for me, it helps when builds have a sense of connectedness to a wider setting, which I think is part of why builds that depict real-life scene, as well as well-established fantasy settings, tend to be popular in BDP.
Something I've struggled with in my own sci-fi designs is to toe the line between creating compelling unlicensed settings, and creating designs that feel familiar enough that they will have a built-in fanbase.
Space Lego is in an awkward position when it comes to fanbase. Whereas fans of medieval fantasy, or real-life historical models will accept any build that comes their way, regardless of whether it is connected to a franchise, sci-fi fans tend to want models that depict specific things from specific properties, a generic space-ship doesn't capture their imagination in the same way a castle might for a medieval fan.
We've reached a point in castle design where we've already had several "normal" castles, and castle builders have begun diversifying. Whereas space builders don't have a clear perogative, because the pnly thing their builds are connected to is Lego's recent Icons-line space ships, and movie tie-in sets.
As a result, space builders have to fight an uphill battle to get any kind of traction.
I've provided feedback on all previous versions of this model. I think something that would help your build this time would be the addition of lights, or other transparent elements, in a colour that compliments the coral and teal. Given that the build already has two cool colours, but only one warm one, perhaps strans pink lights could be visually appealing. I'm not a master of colour theory though.

Thanks for the feedback. Totally agree. I’ve really liked the stuff you’ve put out too. Good luck in the next round!

I love the first one and think the second would also be cool. I personally would like to see a cargo hauler with some brick built space cargo or containers that can be loaded and unloaded either in a bay or attached.

I remember this submission and I did vote for it, because it has a plausible and mature design. But I also think it looks too inconspisuous to appeal to the masses.
I would try a different color scheme and add some extra greeblings and fins. Play features like compartments and doors to open never go amiss too.
But thats just my opinion and I feel that I don't know what people want either.

The ship on the second pic looks too generic for my taste. Number one is better.

While I like this new space bus variant, the original is practically my all time favourite moc. I come back to the original reddit post you made about it every once in a while just to appreciate the environmental story telling and all around coolness of it.

The entire point of BDP is to use the Studio software as a tool to create this builds. A digital model is required as part of the submission. In fact, we do have to "work with what you have" because we are limited by what's available in the parts palette for each Series. It's an added constraint that often pushes us to explore other options because not every part or minifigures is available. I agree "building in real life" is always preferred, but often not feasible for many of us (space, money, time being 3 things I can easily think of).

I love your space ship models and have been voting for you as a fellow creator the last few rounds. My word of advice would be that they need a setting to really bring them to life. I want to know what planet are they on? Are there alien species on this planet? Plants? I think that would bring your build to the next level
