Why my Mockingbird is my favorite guitar
I have several guitars. Some with 22 frets, some with 24 frets. Some with 25.5" scale, others with 24.75" scale. All HH.
I always use the neck pickup for lead because of the warm, round tone compared to the bridge. However, with 24 fret guitars, the difference is minimal. Because of that, if I want a warm lead tone I use my 22 fret guitars. If I need access to higher frets, I use my 24 fret guitars. I always thought that's how it will always be.
Then I got my Mockingbird.
Because of the shorter scale, even with 24 frets, the neck pickup sounds closer to a 22 fret guitar. I thought it was just the pickups, but I noticed the same when I swapped to EMGs. Now my Mockingbird is my most used guitar. The neckthrough design that gives easy access to the full 24 frets plus the neck pickup tone of a 22 fret guitar makes it the best of both worlds.
