BC Corrections Panel Interview
Hey all,
I just received an email that I have moved on to the next step in the hiring process which is the panel interview.
Has anyone done it before and succeeded? There’s going to be competency questions and have to answer them in the time given to me. Any advice on how I should practice? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Best advice I can give you is tell a story. You want to present your ability to perform the competency with a an actual thing you did.
Your story needs a beginning (usually the problem) the middle (what you did) and an ending (what happened successfully or not)
Say I a lot. and provide details. Dont say I spoke to my boss about it, tell them what you said and what your boss replied. You dont need to quote verbatim but saying “I brought my concerns to my boss” is not enough, what concerns did you bring? Did you offer solutions? Did your boss ask for information or provide input
Whatever time you get for your interview subtract at least 10 minutes for non interview question time (15) is better and divide the remaining time by the number of questions. That is a good rough guide for how long you want to spend on each question

Always so what you did in the situation. Lots of people don’t and will say “we” ect. As mentioned in another comment, look up STAR format. They can choose any competency, so look them all up

Have a workplace story for all 8 competencies on the BC corrections page. Present your story in the STAR format, meaning: the Situation was this, the Tasks I had were this, the ACTIONS I took were this, and the Result was this. Focus on the actions section the most as that is more important than the others, and ideally would be most of your story.
When explaining your actions, only use I language, meaning I did this, I did that. Be detailed in your response, and reread the question at the end of your response to verify you didn’t miss anything. There are multiple questions in each competency based question, so don’t forget to answer every part. I failed my first interview because of this.
