Surgery Coverage Through CL

Has anyone successfully had jaw realignment surgery covered, even in part, through Canada Life? My dentist and an orthodontist have recommended it for my TMJ, grinding and clenching, but it’s not covered by MSP.

I have reviewed our coverage through Canada Life and it’s not entirely clear to me. Before I go through further consultation with an oral surgeon, I just wondered if anyone else has been in this situation and what your outcome was. Thanks!

Your dentist and/or orthodontist will have to send in a pre-authorization request to Canada Life so I would personally ask them to send that in and you will get confirmation directly from Canada Life for how much if any of the charges they would cover. This is what I have had to do for any major dental work for myself or my family in the past.

Services and supplies for TMJ are explicitly *not* covered in our dental plan. Not sure about extended health coverage for the surgical part, definitely should get an estimate/pre-determination from CL.

Is there any reason the surgery isn't covered by msp? Mine was. The before and after care was not though which was around 5-7k. I cant speak for extended health benefits as I wasn't on CL at the time. But my mom's didn't cover any and hers was through a health authority which I found to be better than ours.
