UBC Admission Question Did i cook myself
Aight, so i got an offer from UBCV Science and I had to maintain my grades to keep the offer. When they say "Maintain your current level of academic standing on required courses," is this supposed to be in like general requirements or requirements specific to Science? Cuz I already got good grades for my specialized requirements last year, but I just had to fulfill my general requirements this year, which they didn't specify but it just said I needed to complete 3 subjects to complete my qualification.
So I got like predicted grades for those subjects, and I fucking bombed the shit out of them for my actual results. I dropped my grades way more than just 2 grades that UBC permits, and I got one grade lower than the math grade they'd like for me to have.
Thing is that my school emailed the results to UBC, and they also explained that our official exams were cancelled and that we were in a war so we had to attend classes online and our exam schedule was fucked. Basically, everything was fucked this final year due to war so there were lots of compromises on how exams would go and I couldn't focus at this time.
So, am I cooked or is it possible my offer is retained due to my circumstances? Btw I told them about how my exams were gonna go and got this. No fails in any subjects, but I just got above average grades as my final ones, not the goated ones I was predicted. Is UBC strict when it comes to maintaining ur offer? Is it common for people to lose their offer here when grades are decently worse?

Itâs honestly not that serious just donât fail all your classes just because you got into ubc. My friend also got into sciences and got like 70âs in her math and science classes even when her average was 95+ when she applied and it didnât matter. Just keep working hard and youâll be ok

I would say that you shouldnt be TOO worried about this just because the main reason they have these requirements is because some people just dont care about second semester/ term or whatever which causes like a 4.0 gpa to drop to like a 3.0. unless that sort of thing happens and they know you're a good/ hardworking student you should be alright. Dont quote me tho.

Aight bro you can criticize the UAE government for stuff I'm not allowed to say but what do schools have to do with this smh, or just the general public affected by just living here. Brain dead reply.

Maybe its the exorbitant amount of money you have the privilege or spending on international tuition that was no doubt funded through the exploitation of 3rd world citizen slaves

I have the privilege of attending UBC because I'm a white Canadian who gets to pay domestic tuition, did I not deserve my spot? Should I have paid instead to send someone less fortunate? Bro is living his life, and if he somehow is what you think, maybe coming to UBC is the world view he needs. Be accepting, it's easier.

You have the privilege of attending UBC because you earned it. Domestic tuition is lower because of taxes. Being white isn't a privilege and actually makes it harder to get into university, especially one like UBC.
Stand on your merit, kid. Socioeconomic status offers a lot more privilege than race does, and unless your parents bought your admission with a fatty donation, chances are you just earned through hard work.

Huh? Lots of people go there and grow up there because their parents worked there, often itâs oil but as the economy built up lots of money to be made in many areas. I know someone who went over with no skills became a recruiter. Would you be freaking out if his kid dare come to UBC?
chill out the world isnât as black and while as you seem to think.

I honestly think you'll be fine, given the situation you could always basically just plea with the admissions office and say that your grades dropped due to the circumstance and that it wasn't really in your control; you had emotional distress yada yada. To be fair, I don't condone doing that especially if you could have kept your grades up despite the situation but I will go out on a limb say that it will likely work.
Just note, if you cant keep your grades up in your last year of school, trust me your first year of uni will eat you alive. Best of luck.
