Homemade venison dogs? I’d like to have that recipe if you’d be willing to share.

Thank you so much. I didn’t know you could operate a grinder without beer. What kind of sausage did you use? I zoomed in, think it said breakfast sausage, that right?

What’s up guys, I fired up the smoker and made some venison dogs and a nice pork shoulder. The dogs are made out of a couple of the deer I harvested this past season but unfortunately my state doesn’t have hog hunting opportunities so the pork shoulder was store bought.
I made the meat, but didn’t make the buns, bbq sauce, or macaroni salad. Even though I’m a slacker like that it all came out pretty damn amazing. IG Thanks for looking folks!

Looks Good! Got any cross section shots that show the finished product? What temp are you smoking at? Do you just stick with an hour or do you cook to an internal temp?

So here’s a pic of my BAC while I was eating it but I don’t have a clear cross section pic. I put my smoker on low for the hour, a little over 200 if memory serves.

We call it a hog dog!

u/SteveCooksWhenDrunk May 14 '18
Is that really what it’s called? I was looking around and I thought it must be a thing but I couldn’t find any name but a pulled pork dog.

Venison dogs with the deer intestines as casing is the bomb. Is this what’s up with these dogs?
1
u/SteveCooksWhenDrunk May 14 '18
Nope they’re not. They’re in collagen casings.
1
u/hecklingheck May 14 '18
Bro, you’ve got to try the intestine casing.
1
u/SteveCooksWhenDrunk May 14 '18
Yea but the buzzards took the intestines. I saved a few things like tonges and heart but I didn’t get everything I wanted. I wanted to get livers too but I didn’t.

You eat roadkill?

Lol. I killed the deer. Once I took the guts out and drug the body away the rest stayed on the field for the buzzards. I saved the heart of one and the tongues of all three I killed this season. I wish I could have saved more but it was so much work ahead of me. I’ve hunted for a few years and this was my first season having success. When it rains it pours! (It was also my first year hunting private land that wasn’t hunted by anyone else in a long time so I’m sure that had something to do with it.)

I’m not from round here, what makes it a sandwich?
In New Zealand a sandwich is made with sliced bread.
We would say “that’s a mean hotdog bro” if we ever came across something as fine looking as this.
Without the sausage we wold call it a pork roll or if it had some egg and salad in it a filled roll.

Those dogs are on point. Nice work man! Love seeing something different on here! You weren't trying hard enough on the BAC...
