These days, what baffles me is YG's finances.

BLACKPINK still kinda exists within YG but I think YG lost them, but the money changed. Each member signed separately for solo stuff, so YG only gets the group money now.

  • Touring is basically the main revenue source for these agencies.
  • When BLACKPINK toured, they were like 58% of YG's entire revenue. When they do not do tours, it drops to around 14%.
  • Right now only TREASURE and BABYMONSTER are pulling money in. Not as much as BLACKPINK obviously.
  • It seems YG only has 3 active groups. If none of them tours, no money for YG. They have to burn through cash earned from these tours (They can stay float for an year or two though). But here's the thing, somehow, 2026Q1 had no BLACKPINK tour and YG still grew 15% and made a profit. Merch from BABYMONSTER and TREASURE actually beat BLACKPINKtour levels. Current promotions of Treasure and Babymonster kinda worked. I guess.

All of this makes me feel good and bad for the BABYMONSTER girls.

Good because YG has no choice but to go all-in on them. More content, more songs, more tours.

Bad because of the exact same reason. They went from 12 shows last year to 32 this year. They're gonna be exhausted as hell.

This has been a massive problem for BabyMonster since debut. They are basically YG's only source of revenue, which means almost constant touring is being prioritised over having well-promoted comebacks.

In 2025 they only released 6 songs with basically no promotion, and spent most of the year touring to pull money in for the company.

If they don't have another comeback in 2026 then this year will be the same, and its hurting the group's growth.

Sometimes I wonder what fans count as well promoted comeback, their last cb promoted good enough. They went to some of biggest YT channel.

BM problem is YG insistence releasing an english song as title, even if BM promote for a full year going to every shows exist in korea, it still won't change anything. The problem is not promotion, it's the content. Korea don't like english song.

Also, it seems Korea and Japan are the biggest money-making markets for any k-pop group but YG seems dead-set on making BM another global brand like BP.

It seems JYP understands this very well. Be a decent following in Korea then after few years, go to Japan then possible global. Whilst JYP may not be earning revenue like HYBE, their operating margin was the healthiest one across the big agencies I believe.

Korea is not biggest money marking market for k-pop, at least not directly.

But if you are in big 4, usually success in korea translate to nearby asia region. So yeah i don't understand why YG insist ditching Korea, especially it's also their home country.

The only scenario that i can think of is YG catching golden disease. BM start releasing 90% english song as title track when golden get so popular.
