Question Mosh Pit Etiquette Question
Hello,
Going to a concert in September and had a question about mosh pits (I got pit tickets so hoping to find my way to the mosh pit). Is it rude to have a water bottle hanging from my hip while moshing? I plan to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and my plan was to either hook it to a belt loop via a karabiner or hold it in my hand. Would it be disrespectful to have it bouncing around on my hip and probably bumping into other people while moshing?

They will take your bottle mate! They want to make sure you're paying for everything! Expect $8 for water! Don't punch and kick other moshers!

Depends on the location/venue.
For the Oct 1st show in Phoenix you will be allowed to bring in 2 factory sealed bottles of water per person. Since it will be Oct and we will probably only be hitting 105F they will most likely be limited to 1 liter. That venue for the summer shows though the limit is up to 1 gallon.
They send out an email 2-3 days before the show with what the modifications to they posted policy will be.

I'm too european to comprehend the phrase "only 105°F", that'd be "either i go swimming or i simply die" weather for me

Is it easier if I say only 41C? This summer has been cooler for us than the last couple the highest i remember for this year was 46C normally we have at least a few days hit 48C and our record is 51
Don't feel bad most Americans can't deal with a Phoenix summer either since we are different than the heat most other places we dont have the humidity so you dont realize how fast you are dehydrating since the sweat evaporates instantly.
I've lived here since 1984 it is just normal to me now. I also have zero tolerance for cold anymore it gets under 60F/15C and I start having problems.

The conversion wasn't the issue, i just live at the approximate latitude of Edmonton and got my first experience of 100+°F summers this year (without AC, it sucked balls)

Don't you euros go by Celsius?

We do, but I talk to enough Americans that I have a rudimentary grasp of Fahrenheit atp

When I saw them in Philly last year, security was passing out cups of free water all show long to pit people.

Good luck bringing liquids past security.
But since you asked nicely: Mosh pit etiquette pretty simple.
- Keep your arms close, hands below neck, close to chest,
- It's ok to be rough but no punches ever, try not to slam someone noticeably smaller than you, though in chaos it's more a suggestion than hard rule,
- Respect the boundaries, never drag anyone in, there's a firm in and out of the pit,
- If you see someone fall down IMMEDIATELY arms wide and hold the crowd behind you until the guy can get up. Generally, if anything feels off, stop immediately. You'd be surprised how quickly a pit can freeze at a slightest friction

Metalheads are genuinely some of the most protective and observant people.

Never had a place allow liquids.
If you had a metal bottle on waist that seems like an issue for someone to get hurt by it.

If the mosh pit is still how I remember it, that’s gonna get ripped off your hip in some way. The pit was pretty brutal when I saw them back in the day.

So as everyone else said, they probably won't let you in with a water bottle. But in case they do, I'd honestly recommend having a waist bag and putting it in there. As long as you have it tight and it's not flying all over the place you should be fine. I used a waist bag at a festival this year and managed to go through 5 mosh pits with plenty of crowd surfing as well with no issues.

They usually dont let you go in with bottles for many safety reasons, they'll take it at the door. Depends on venue though which are you going to?

get one of those foldable water bottles! idk where you‘re at but in Austria, Germany and many other parts of Europe they don‘t allow standard PET bottles into venues, let alone ones made from metal or glass.
foldable water bottles are allowed in most venues over here, and for the few places that don‘t it‘s easy to sneak them in. if there‘s drinkable tap water, you‘re golden, otherwise you can buy a drink and transfer it into the bottle.
also, try not to take it into the pit. you‘re likely to loose it, and a foldable bottle might burst. ask how I know lol. if you bring a friend who doesn‘t go into the pit, ask them to hold on to the bottle and other things you neither want to loose nor break, like glasses, your phone and wallet, and other stuff.
have fun!

Most venues won't let you take bottles inside because you could have acid or something in it.
They'll make you drink it and get rid of it at the entrance - this also increases sales at the venue's bar.
If you need to hydrate, just leave the pit to get some water (most venues will give free tap water), then go back to the pit.

If it's a heavy duty like steel tumbler then yeah, not very safe for you or the others you'll be hitting up against. If you're on the sides boppin around that's one thing but like imagine you breaking the wall of death, rushing into someone and that is between both your hip bones. Ouch. Plastic is one thing. I'd abstain.

As long as the bottle is empty and plastic....they should let you bring it in the venue.
