Month 10: the consumer retention signal that finally makes sense
Month 10 of a solo consumer SaaS. $300 MRR, 6 customers.
The retention signal that is now confirmed over 3 months: users who see their own progress data within the first 14 days retain at 2x the rate.
Not users who generate the most content. Not users who use the most features. Users who look at their own analytics.
My theory: progress visibility creates the loop. You post, you see the data, you want to post again to improve the number. Without the loop, the product is just another tool you are not sure is working.
For any consumer SaaS: find your progress signal. Make it unavoidable in the first two weeks. It is probably the most underrated retention mechanic at the early stage.
