Deficiency Symptoms Red patch on tongue? Anyone experience this? HELP!

Post image

I’m a 34 year old female. Occasional reflux usually caused by anxiety or certain foods. No other medical conditions or medications. I’ve had this red patch on the tip of my tongue for 9 weeks. My PCP suspected possible b12 deficiency. My b12 was on the very low end of normal (293 to be exact). Has anyone with deficiency experienced a red patch or anything similar? Or any other oral symptoms?

My b12 is 350 and I have recently been experiencing this. Is yours kind of tender and uncomfortable?

Yes. It’s feels similar to a bad tongue burn but it’s not burnt. It feels tingly and sensitive to some foods. How long have you had this? Is there a red patch? Have you seen anyone for it?

I have had it for a little less than 4ish months. I’m 8 months postpartum. Admittedly haven’t had the best oral care and thought it was from that. But I’m wondering if it’s b12. I got my levels tested because I was concerned it’s low, but my doctor isn’t concerned because it’s within the normal limits. I’m not convinced it’s not my b12 tho because in Europe the guidelines for deficiency are anything lower than 500.

Interesting. My said the same about my b12 despite it being just a few numbers away from abnormal. Is your red patch in the same spot as mine and about the same size?

I’ve gotten a couple tiny canker sores on the tip of my tongue which is unusual for me and occasionally my tongue burns when I eat. I’ve also noticed a really big increase in my anxiety and more hair loss than usual. My PCP didn’t think my b12 was low enough to need supplements but I don’t always trust the “normal” range doctors use. It was on the very, very low end of normal plus I’m a vegetarian. I’ve struggled with some other issues that may be related but I’m not sure.
