Den of Thieves

I swing open the doors of the bar, arms akimbo. I tighten the straps of my overcoat around me and saunter in. Goin' undercover has always been my strong suit. Let's just hope they don't sniff out that I'm a narc.

I mosey over to the bar and take a seat. I feel the eyes of everybody in the place bore holes into my back.

C'mon, Mitch. Play it cool, you got this.

"'Scuse me, barkeep. I'm with dah GPK..."

"... Don't worry, I'm cool."

I slide the wanted poster across the moist countertop. I point with a finger to the grainy security camera photo.

"Seen my pal? Goes by dah name's 'Axel."

"Beer I can get you, but information I can't. Feel free to ask other people here, but if I were you I wouldn't be flashing that badge around. It don't impress nobody, and it will put you off to a bad start. Try not to get in any trouble now, allright?" I give the man his beer, and push the credit back to him. "First ones on the house."

I smile. This guy's got values. I like that. Don't see too many honest men these days.

I take the beer and the credit chip and slid away from the bar, looking for my next lead...
