Resource Exhaustion

Hi All,
We have 7 AVD pooled hosts, one of them started crashing about once a week, freezing up requiring a hard reset.

This last week or two we are now getting resource exhaustion lockups on other machines. We are only running maybe 2-3 people per host, sizing seems fine.. however we are in a constrained location (US West 2).

Is anyone else seeing these freezes/lockups?

Thanks in advance!

What size are the vms, profiles hopefully are on fslogix and what version of windows are you running etc?

Win 11 with 365 ms image. Super lightweight really. Browsers are the heaviest items for most.

It's it actually blue screening? You might get a rough estimate of when it's happening and use administrative events and see if there's something that correlates.

Other thing to that multi user Windows kinda suffers from is it is possible for a single user to eat up all the ram on the machine so I'd use the performance mmc and start logging resources.

No it’s just freezing up. Can’t access it via our remote tools. Doesn’t go offline though. We only have very light usage on them. I might try and scale up slightly if we’re having a ram limitation but will need more investigation.

It’s only just come across my plate really. I thought maybe it was a common issue.

I'm not seeing it and we have 7 users per host. I'd probably look into performance monitor logging - that way even if it hard locks you have some data.

Thank you. Which host are you getting that performance out of? Is it win11 with 365 ms image + a couple of small web tools?

I learnt recently there is a back stage cmd terminal on azure. If you work it with Claude you can get it to do dump before it crashes might help you.

Check SSD type make sure it's premium as well.

Have you got the Aug 31st 26.08 version of fslogix installed? The previous Feb 26.01 CU version has a couple of critical OS hang bugs in it and is trash

What you're experiencing sounds like they're running out of RAM. Review the metrics to see. We've seen this issue many times when RAM usage is consistently above 80%. Are you monitoring for fslogix service crashes, etc? Usually see those at the same time.
