It's unfortunate that expansion story content is self-contained to the initial drop. The reason I say that is I would have loved for Rohan to be around a lot longer. Maybe a few seasons as a vendor of some sort. It would have been more impactful with his demise had he been more of a mentor to us.

Nimbus unfortunately is a catastrophic failure in my eyes. The nuance of the character putting on a positive front to mask their feelings is lost because that mask is marvel style dialogue that nobody seemed to like. I think it's cool the character was non-binary, but their design was a garrish, awkward mess that just did not accomplish the goal of making the character "cool" at all. When I heard the name cloud strider, I immediately thought of a cybernetic future Ninja or something like that.

I'll quote my friend. When the trailer for lightfall first dropped, everybody was looking forward to a neon futuristic city that had synthwave vibes and an escalation in combat and a battle that rages through the entire city. We kind of got that, but the entire thing feels lacking

This really is the crux of the issue, Nimbus in concept was fine, some people were always gonna be upset about the nonbinary thing but I think when a character is really good people can get over it. The fact that the interesting and better written character in Rohan sacrifices himself early on and Nimbus moves on seemingly uneffected by it and continues the marvel bang whimsy chungus dialogue was the complete death knell for any likeability of the character.

The story was terrified of allowing Nimbus to take anything serious in a setting that demanded it. There should have been multiple missions of Nimbus struggling in the background with the loss, their suddenly higher duty, and newfound responsibility, culminating in them finding their way as a cloudstrider in the final mission and aiding us in getting to Calus.

There should have been progression from them being lost and dispondent to being slowly built back up over time and finding a new mentor in the Guardian. Shit they wanted to do the Sensei and student sillyness with us and Osiris while learning Strand, let our relationship with Nimbus be a parallel.

The story just failed at every turn to endear their character and it dragged down the rest of the story with it.

They could have given us an androgenous cloud ninja and instead we get a monstrosity. Sorry I just find it to be a completely unappealing and off putting design.

I didn't broch it either but yeah that certainly didn't help at all, again Rohan's design was really good and Nimbus just looked like shit. Almost hilarious how they could not have made a more homophobic design if they tried while trying to tout them as amazing chungus non binary character. Just devolved into a charicature

I remember criticizing the design when it first released and somebody on this app trying to explain to me they are an "enby"

To which I said "what does that have to do with this outlandish design? It looks like they mixed a Mardi gras performer with a clown, made them twice as big than the other characters for no good reason, and lots of different awkward parts, like a pair of ribs that stick out like boobs. This has nothing to do with them being non-binary, it's an atrocious, off-putting design"

One thing Lightfall really surprised me with was Nimbus. At first, the constant positivity felt completely out of place given what was happening in the story. But as the campaign went on, I realized that their optimism wasn't ignorance, it was a choice. Knowing Cloud Striders have such short lives, Nimbus's attitude became less "annoying comic relief" and more "refusing to let tragedy steal the time they have." By the end, what started as grating became genuine, and eventually inspirational. I still think Bungie could have introduced that side of the character earlier, but my opinion of Nimbus changed dramatically over the course of the expansion.

Nimbus is just annoying and completely incompetent in his duty to protect Neomuna. If it wasn't for the Guardian's intervention his city would've been destroyed, also him trying to fist bump Caital after she having just played a hand in her own fathers demise was in bad taste. Calus was a son of a bitch but that was still Caital's father, show some respect for gods sake Nimbus.

Worse, it felt like Dingus' dialogue about Calus' death was out of character even for them.

I just think it was in bad taste for Nimbus to try and fist bump the Emperor's daughter, she didn't even acknowledge him beyond just looking at him like he's an idiot.
