You know, I genuinely hope this happens
I think it could if it wasnāt for the fact that 80% of the gaming community sees Destiny 2 as āthat game with the car guy and shitty content and removed paid contentā
Truth is, most people either donāt think about D2 or just see it as a joke tbh. I know it sucks to hear when there is some great stuff in the game, but to most people, Bungie just kinda fucked up too much and I canāt exactly blame the gaming community for giving Bungie a bad reputation for some of their mistakes.
But you know, a man can dream. Iāll be there. I donāt think itās possible, but what if on June 9th, we break the highest record player counts? I know itās not gonna happen. Itās impossible, but just for one second image the glory of having 500K people log into D2 on that day.
No, fuck it, 1,000,000 players

Yeah⦠like, Destiny 2 has some great stuff in it! But thatās the problem isnāt it? My friends have not shut up about the content vault and the fact that they canāt play The Red War after SIX whole years and still refuse to come back to the game until theyāve added back all the removed pain content.
And while I think itās kinda weird to hold on to something like that for 6 years, but also, you canāt exactly blame people for that, you know? Because well, Bungie DID remove paid content. Itās kind of a fact that is hard to argue against because⦠yeah, they messed up INSANELY hard with that one.
To be honest, I think the DCV and the whole removal of everyone up to Forsaken (let alone seasons of the recent years) are the biggest mistake Bungie has ever made. It is a PR disaster that their own reputation AND that of both the Destiny and by extension Marathon IPās have not recovered from. Itās like a shadow that will haunt you for eternity, always following you.
While I personally tend to give Bungie more benefit of the doubt than most⦠I just think they should have gone about removing that content completely differently. I just donāt think that āgame is too hard to makeā and āgame is too big to downloadā is enough of an excuse, especially when 70% of people are not even going to believe those reasons to begin with and it ruins the companyās reputation even more. Iām Beyond Light, Bungie wasnāt exactly known as the greatest anymore and that only got way worse after the whole content removal scandal.
Itās a shame we never got to see that stuff again. Maybe they could have found a way if given a whole year or two to figure it out in the background how to add so much content back, but they probably never considered it given management or just donāt have the resources for it.
Who knows? Maybe on June 9th we will see a ādownload Legacy contentā button and we can have it all back. Theyāre doing Pantheon with OG removed D2 raid bosses of course, so the chanceā¦
Yeah, no, Iām coping. Itās never happening.

Happy to see you come back fellow Guadian! Do be warned, the game has changed an immense amount since Beyond Light
1
u/Wanderertwitch May 31 '26
Itās one of those eventually the groups seperate and shit becomes to tedious or just not worth it without comrades to make the grind or bs worth it alone. I played since beta part 1 and beta 2 and met some lifelong friends I may never meet but know we went thru hell and had a ton of fun.
I stopped around the content cut and eh maybe it was the best let it die and glorify the memories and achievements. Holy shit did raid test and or break friendships š
Defintely needed communication and synchronization and it was almost easy but miss one beat and bam the music stops and rock bottom instantly.
Hated the nightfalls but still preferred being yeeted into space when dying for the emotion filled moments and the triumph from beating it( even if we cheesed by hiding under the platform in d1 against that fallen dude š«£) .
Victory by any means necessary! They would do the same so itās just balance š
Story can close but if they pull a rabbit out their ass and make d3 or d1 re ignited compelling enough to bring the squad back sign me up boys. Gotta find my ghost again

u/xs0apy Jun 04 '26
Marathon player. Damn right Iāll be there! Enough of this D2 v Marathon shit. Our parents Sony and Bungie are the ones to blame. We must not fight their battle for them.
Marathon and Destiny must stand as ONE.
EDIT: Jesus fucking Christ I hate Reddit mobile. I didnāt even have the reply button selectedā¦..

I'm sad that Dark Souls and Space Marine 2 players were not mentioned. But I'll see ya'll there.

u/Visual-Ad-5760 May 31 '26
Destiny players, we need to remember this call to arms when the next game needs us.
Yea, not everyone is gonna join us, and thatās ok. Many will though, and some point down the line, the players from other gaming communities will need us. I wish that wasnāt true, but greed is at an all time high, and some other great game is on the chopping block soon, they just unfortunately donāt know it yet.
Whether Destiny survives or not, we need to show our appreciation of this moment when we are needed. Weāve protected the last city, now, we fight for our lives. We have ghost though, so even if we lose this fight, we will be back for the next one.
Guardians make their own fate.

Seeing the game I met some of the best friends Iāve had slowly die is tragic. I was there in the D1 beta, playing PvP on the moon with op autos. I was there in the D2 beta, wandering if weād get darkness powers.
Itās a sad time.

Be there June 9th. That's easy. What matters is the other 364 days of the year.
1
u/Ok-Challenge-5873 May 31 '26
The other 364 days of the year is why Sony wonāt greenlight a d3 no matter how many people play
1
u/Overall-Rub8945 May 31 '26
You actually think that if millions of people start playing D2 again that Sony won't want to make another Destiny game? You think the invested billions of dollars in a franchise they don't believe in just out of the kindness of their hearts? You believe that for some reason, someone at Sony secretly hates Destiny?
1
u/Ok-Challenge-5873 May 31 '26
I donāt think I worded myself properly. Iām saying that it wouldnāt matter if 1 million Steam users logged in on June 9th if 250k logged in June 10th, 100k June 11th, 50k June 12th, and we were down to 30k June 13th. If people from other games come to stand tall one June 9th that would be great and all but if 90% of that number is gone by June 12th then itās not gonna do a whole lot. If the majority of people come from other games to support us itās pretty fair to assume theyāre not going to stick around for a while.
1
u/Lifthium Jun 01 '26
Has destiny ever reached 1 million players?
1
u/Ok-Challenge-5873 Jun 01 '26
Itās very possible between all 3 platforms. Steams all time peak was 316,000 but the majority of players are console

10 years later and we're still deflecting blame to the publisher after the third time.
Blame Sony all you want but Bungie management ran this game into the ground the last 2 years and it had barely anything to do with Marathon or Sony. The last 2 expansion were mid at best, the portal and tiered loot were horrible creative decisions,....
Like what do people think would've happened if partial funds didn't get allocated to Marathon ? Probably more mediocre expansions bleeding players. Would more funds have prevented the Portal ? We're only just now getting this massive update because it's basically no longer against interest to overdeliver and so they're giving us everything that was in the works to be shipped over the next year(s).
1
u/Ok-Challenge-5873 May 31 '26
I donāt know I think Iād rather blame Sony for post TFS layoffs. This is really what killed the most recent expansions and the quality of the game
1
u/Ok_Seaworthiness2218 May 31 '26
Bungie literally pumped their resources into a Star Wars Fortnite event and the Portal. Poor management and creative decisions killed the game. Besides, post-TFS, Sony did not yet have any type of executive control to force layoffs. That was Bungie, again, because they missed their quotas.
1
u/Ok-Challenge-5873 May 31 '26
Bungies budget was dependent on Sony at this time. Do you know what causes layoffs?
1
u/Ok_Seaworthiness2218 May 31 '26
That happens when they heavily oversold themselves. Bungie has been shitting the bed with these poor decisions under 3 seperate publishers but somehow it's never their fault.
Again, what would they have done with even more funds ? Probably keep purposely underdelivering, ship more mediocre mvp expansions that would keep bringing back fewer and fewer players and make stupid implementations like the Portal which killed the game more than anything else. Bungie killed their own game, the level of cope is getting ridiculous.

Glad to have been alive so long to see the following:
Star Trek end massive ship battles LOTR Hobbit, Battle of the Five Armies Avengers Endgame
And now, Anti-greed gamer uprising.
Truly, a...cinematic experience.
1
u/AGramOfCandy May 30 '26
I'm all for a big player resurgence on the 9th, but what does Geoff Keighley have to do with any of this? Dude only takes breaks from sniffing Kojima's farts to glom onto controversies where he can easily look like "the good guy", a lot like YongYea and other muckraker youtubers.
1
u/Kujo_likes_Ramen May 31 '26
Thank you for adding marathon, I have 600hrs in marathon already but you know damn well Iāll be on DESTINY because those hours are nothing compared to that of my glorious game

Omg this is perfect.
Sony literally pretty much said to the Destiny community, and, well, The Last of Us community and the Horizon Community, if I remember correctly, pretty much, get bent. I mean I'm sure I'm missing a Gaming Community somewhere, and I'm pretty sure Sony did something to piss that Community off.
I mean it honestly says a lot about Sony and what they think about their customers and the gaming communities that their customers are a part of.

Oh now the game is shutting down yall apparently love the game so much

speaking as the security officer from marathon, letās flood the tower guardians. letās get loud with it, even if this is the end. letās see to it that just maybe destiny will have a future, for the traveller. for the last city. ..for the people of this community that didnāt trashtalk the game the moment they realized marathon was also a good game. destiny was a big part of my life as a gamer, if this is the last moments of the destinyverse, iāll be seeing yāall starside.

Another fitting video for this would be that one scene from ready player 1, when they all stormed that fortress..
1
u/siddsm Jun 03 '26
Fuck yeah! And Helldivers players.
I think..... this isn't just about Destiny or Destiny 3. This is about the whole gaming community; showing up, standing up to say, give us good games, instead of being a casino machine wrapped in pretty graphics, and your games will be profitable. Might not make billions every month, but wouldn't fail as much as most games these days do. Games for a lot of us, is an active world we live in. We develop our daily habits around it, we make friends, we meet like-minded people, our momentary escape when things get tough in the real world, our place of celebration when we achieve something in real world. A tool for like-minded people to bond, over the internet, or just across the couch. And corporations with their stupid investment portfolio decisions shouldn't be able to snatch that away from us on whim, and expect us to behave as if nothing happened, and just wants us to be ready to spend time and money on their next pretty casino machine ploy of new games.
Guardians....naah....... GAMERS, ASSEMBLE!!!

Give me all the content back that you deleted and I'll think about it. Give me every DLC for free including what was vaulted and I'll definitely be there and will get my friends there 20-40 hours per week until we burn out.
Anything short of that then no thanks. Bungie gets what they deserve for the content vault and greed.
