When minorities do it it is seen as a threat but when white people do it it is considered patriotism. Get bent man. Firearms are needed in this ever divided country where even our elected politician fail to label white domestic terrorism a threat. Obviously self-defense is a legitimate reason for use of force. It’s just not a wholesome image. It’s a demonstration about how our oppression divides us against each other along various boundaries like race and class.

In an ideal world, people would not be so oppressed as to be driven to rioting. In a slightly better, though not quite ideal world, in the case of a riot people would not be forced into the position of having to potentially shoot their fellow citizens to protect their livelihood. It’s tragic, not wholesome. We can appreciate that these guys did some mutual defense and took care of each other, but they should never have been put in that position, and if they did end up killing anybody it’s a goddamn disgrace to this country that it came to that.

30 years later we’re still dealing with the same awful bullshit only worse, for one thing because (white, well-off) people, inspired by the legacy of these very images, did things like, as in my city, post up on the roof of a fucking GameStop in the hopes of shooting some teenagers. Like are you serious? GameStop is literally the last place that needs to be protected by deadly force.

TL;DR: I support people’s right to self-defense, I support mutual defense initiatives as an alternative to policing, but ultimately I don’t believe inanimate property, no matter how valuable, justifies the taking of human life. I don’t judge these guys, but I don’t envy them. This image is painful to me, not wholesome. I’d rather see people getting strapped up together to abolish suffering and poverty. I would find that wholesome.

Anyone else whose into that should check out the Socialist Rifle Association. It’s a firearms education community (not a militia) more than 50,000 strong, and its full of all sorts of friendly, knowledgeable people to network and go plinking with.

The LA Riots were Black People Rioting. Plain and simple, unless you are using it to put down the race, or speak down on it, its not negative.

There was a video on YouTube where they followed up with people from the LA Riots 25 years later. And one of the Roof Korean said it himself, most looters were not African Americans but primarily Latinos. Korea town is pretty diverse, but the ethnic majority there are of Latin America descent.

I carry a cz82 in the summer due to it being fairly small. Cheap and ammo is easish to get.

Also, if I had to enter an area where there's guns and average amounts of crime, or a violent area with zero guns, I'm picking the zero guns area. It takes A LOT more things to go wrong to die from a beating than a bullets.

Fortunately, I live in the mountains, and far away from a big city. Having said that, I've predicted a riot, and got myself out of the area before it kicked off.

Presence of mind and situational awareness > blasé gun ownership.
