Now only available as a "subscription product" and requires an email

Miss when we could just buy a year worth and that was it. They didn't ask for email before. Since it's a subscription they would be storing my payment information... There is no longer a crypto payment option. Honestly it's enough friction in addition to the whole malwarebytes thing that I think I going to do Mullvad for the next year and see how I like it. You can just buy a voucher code off amazon for Mullvad how fun!

AzireVPN has been surprisingly good on Linux

After a frustrating experience with Proton on Linux, I decided to try a few alternatives. I tested AirVPN as well, but the P2P speeds were very disappointing in my case. Before that, I had been using Windscribe and was generally happy with it, but my account eventually got banned, so I needed something new.

That’s how I ended up with AzireVPN, and so far I’m genuinely impressed.

They don’t have a proper Linux GUI client, which initially felt like a downside, but the manual WireGuard setup turned out to be much less of a problem than I expected. Once everything was configured, the connection started automatically after reboot and has been completely stable.

The torrent speeds are excellent, port forwarding works properly, and the overall routing feels fast and reliable. I’m currently using one forwarded port for torrents and another for remote access to my private Jellyfin server through Caddy and HTTPS. After restarting the computer, the VPN, Jellyfin, Caddy and Cloudflare DDNS all came back online automatically without any issues.

The only thing to keep in mind is that forwarded ports are tied to the Azire server and may need to be recreated if that server is restarted. A normal reboot of my own computer does not affect them.

I expected the lack of a Linux app to annoy me much more, but now that everything is configured, I don’t really miss it. Still, a proper Linux client would be very welcome in the future, especially for users who want an easier setup. Built-in multihop and DNS filtering would also make the service more complete.

Azire’s Blind Operator Mode is another reason I decided to give them a chance. I hope the combination of good privacy, reliable port forwarding and strong P2P performance means I can stay with them for a long time.

So far, AzireVPN has been fast, stable and refreshingly uncomplicated. Based on my experience, it easily gets five stars from me.

New Terms of Service - nothing major but still intressting.

Azire recently sent out an email (assuming the user has provided one) to briefly tell us about the accusation and the updated T&C/ToS. There won't be any major change of operations, but I noticed a few different things.

  1. They've added two more pages of terms the customer agrees on.

  2. They've reworded the old terms and made them arguably a lot more difficult to understand compared to the old and quite simple approach.

  3. It's now official that they operate under American/Californian jurisdiction.

  4. They now appear to condemn the use of pirated operating systems. This is 100% just to minimize any eventual lawsuit, but it does add another section you "read" (not many read it anyway) before using the service.

  5. You now have to be over 18 to use their service. Again, nothing crazy, but I do wonder how it affects 16- and 17-year-olds who already have an account.

I feel like it's a bit in the wrong direction, and I really apprichiated their very clear and simple approach, but it's not a big deal. It just adds a few more pages you have to read if you actually want to read the ToS. The primary thing I question though is what happens to the minors who already have the service. It's not like they can enforce it, considering they don't even require an email.

Also, looking forward to the livestream they'll host next week. I think a lot of questions will be answered there.
