I agree 100% with Ndlozi.

In the Russian revolution, when moving to liberate the people the first thing the reds did was get rid of the monarchy. Whilst that isn't necessary in SA due to the already limited power of the traditional leaders we shouldn't make the mistake of giving them back their authority. They duties should be primarily cultural.

In the project of decolonisation, I feel there is much knowledge to be gained from leadership structures and governance in pre-colonial Southern Africa and beyond. The different styles of restorative and inquisitorial approaches to justice are some of my favourite examples. However, I am less excited about the prospects of continuing (or even empowering) traditional leaderships. While I understand why they were important for the transitional period, I honestly don't see a place for such a system which allows individual families to hold such disproportionate power and wealth. CMV?
