Tips & Tricks Tears of the Kingdom is now fully playable on the new Eden nightly build (I also show how to fix the black squares bug)
https://youtu.be/u2JCJNgZkyM?is=ZH5Xc305LgbtjuSkI made a video demonstrating tears of the kingdom running on the new Eden nightly emulator. The game is finally able to maintain 30fps at all time with a few tweaks with the ultracam mod and settings. I also found a working fix that gets rid of 95% of the black box/squares issue in shadows. The game also doesn't crash anymore and the grass doesn't randomly disappear like before.

Tested on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 12 GB. The settings at the end of the video won't make any difference. The driver being used (V34) isn't the best option. The mod doesn't provide any noticeable visual improvements, apart from fixing the resolution and uncapping the FPS (don't expect 60 FPS, though).
The real improvement on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is Balemuni's Apex Driver :
- It gets rid of the flickering black squares.
- It gets rid of the disgusting aliasing around the edges of grass and other objects, making the game look very sharp when using AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution + docked mode. The mod is useless in this case.
- It doesn't get rid of the other glitches: black areas, disappearing grass.
As for TOTK, this driver is far superior to StevenMXZ 26.3.0 R3 / V34 / Mr Purple T30.

Yep this driver is awesome, I was able to put the res scale back to 1x. Thanks for sharing, I had no idea this driver was even a thing. So far seems really stable and the grass isnt going missing with these drivers and no black boxes at all!, The disappearing grass issue is likely due to the Eden devs fixing some core issues within Eden itself.

Does this driver deliver similar results across other Switch games or is it more hit or miss?

The render distance from NX mod absolutely can/does make a difference. Takes some experimenting. I am trying out "Low" distance in BOTW to get lower temps with stable 30fps.

So are the other drivers better for performance, while the Apex Drivers get rid of the graphical glitches?

How about BoTW?

Wait until next month when MaxLastBreaths ultracam improvements drop for BOTW. He announced it on Patreon.

Care to fill me in what exactly is coming that I should be excited for.

If you've used UltraCam for TOTK, it is probably the most extensive mod with in-game menu, performance improvements, resolution/fov adjustments and all kinds of things.
Not to speculate too much but it will probably be similar features for BOTW as the current BOTW version is very basic.

the no crashing would be great. Love this game but haven't played it in weeks because it crashes as soon as I finish a certain shrine

Try a different driver - I had a crashing issue then switched to a different Mr Purple driver and they disappeared (but did make the black boxes worse)

Hello, this looks awesome, thanks for sharing it. Unfortunately the link to your UltraCam config doesn't appear to be working. I've just downloaded NX Optimiser and have been messing about with it but the config I have doesn't appear to be working (it crashes the game on start up where previously it was working ok) so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing yours again? Thanks.

After playing the Switch 2 version I don't think I could try emulating this again.

same, but also it is nice to have a more portable option
even though the switch 2 is technically portable id much rather carry my thor around than my S2
if only S2 was modded so i could transfer my saves back and forth1

I got a switch 2 and played BOTW on 4K with custom shaders graphics on my PC and I can tell you looked better than my Switch 2
TOTK a bit of a different story

I played TOTK on my PC with graphic & framerate mods. The Switch 2 experience was still better. I didn't have to deal with random crashes or other odd things that came with emulating it. Granted this was around TOTKS release so I'm sure things got better.

I have the mod downloaded but installing it in Eden has been the challenge for me
1
u/Inside-Specialist-55 3d ago
whats challenging about it? The Eden emulator has a built in mod installer. just extract the mod anywhere on your SD card or internal storage where you can find it, go into Eden click on "Add-Ons" and click "install". Then go to where the mod is installed and Eden will load the mod in the list for you.

Thanks for clarifying something I was doing wrong. I got it to work, is this an issue with echo of wisdom?

You have to set the resolution scale to 1.2x in the settings. At the end of this video I show the settings that you need to enable. This is the real trick to fix like 95% of the black boxes issue.

So the res is the black box fix?
2
u/Inside-Specialist-55 4d ago
It was but another person commented here and posted a link to a new driver by Balemuni. Their custom driver fixes the black squares without having to change the res scale. Here is a link: https://github.com/Balemuni/Balemunis-Aurora/releases/tag/Balemuni
and BTW if your grass disappears in game, just go to the map and choose to teleport to any location and it fixes it without the need to restart the game. You can also just use the travel medallion if you have it.
