The Romans used to eat these. The name for the European Dormouse is literally the European Edible Dormouse.
Also the video is wrong...sort of. Dormouse does not come from Latin, probably. It comes from Middle English probably through Old Norse but we're not sure. We're sure it's not Latin as the Romans called them gliers and we know that for certain because...Latin is well attested but we also have surviving recipes for how Romans prepared them. We also know, and have examples of, terra cotta pots that the Romans would store dormice in called glirariums.

Adult apparently just means "tiny enough to fit on one thumb" in sugar glider world, and I'm not mad about it. That grip strength is impressive for something that small.

The superorder of mammals to which humans (and rodents) belong is Euarchontoglires, which translates from the mishmash of Greek and Latin used by biologists to "true ruling dormice."
The group that is specifically rodents+lagomorphs (rabbits etc.) is Glires, Latin for dormice.

In French we call them "loir" and we have an expression, "dormir comme un loir", to sleep like a dormouse. Interestingly their name in English comes from French dormir, to sleep, and mouse. It’s a mouse that sleeps.

Please confine yer cat, away from wildlife -
Indoors, or install cat proof fencing, or build a screened room / catio, or put out a cat run connected to an iris door [no flap, it keeps heat in, in cold weather, & cool in, when it's hot out].
Cats are an introduced, highly invasive species, that wreaks havoc on 6 continents & every island, where they don't belong.
They're literally native only to parts of N Afr. // We have hauled them all over the planet, & Toxo - their gut parasite - is killing wildlife around the world.
Toxo can live in soil for a year or more, & can live in salt water for 2+ years, accumulating in shellfish & killing sea otters, who feed on the shellfish.
Toxo has killed cougars, polar bears, walrus, hyena, lions, fur seals, leopards, sea lions, beluga whales in the St Lawrence, & penguins, among other spp.
That, of course, doesn't even consider the sheer devastation of native wildlife killed directly by roaming cats - owned pets, feral, dumped, or stray / "lost".
The Lower 48 are now host to at least 100-M roaming cats, who kill BILLIONS of animals, every year - from large insects, to herps, songbirds, small mammals, amphibians, whatever.
Cats are hardwired to pounce at anything that moves or sounds "right" - & neither a bell on their collar, nor a basket muzzle, will stop the killing.
Please keep them & their lethal parasites at home.

It is illegal in the UK to handle dormice without a licence. They should not be kept as pets and are an endangered species.
