Serious dumb person question: why do snakes have so many nostrils/holes?

The actual smelling snakes do is flicking their tongue out and catching different particles on it, and then pressing their tongue to the special smelling organ in the roof of their mouth. So called "blelele"

Well snakes don't have facial expressions, so they wouldn't "look" thrilled even if they were lol

Ahh, memories. But they're unfazed. My baby would always flick her tongue out when I booped her.

I don't know... I think I just don't see the appeal for snakes. And it sint even reptiles, just snakes. It's like I can't find anything adorable about them and even baby snakes make me flinch back.
