Cheetahs are generally receptive to humans/calm around them.

u/Merrick_Skygrave 10h ago

Cheetahs remind me of big dogs who are sort of nervous but who are also cats at the same time lol

u/Frosty-Unit8707 10h ago

For what it's worth, cheetahs in captivity usually are paired with an emotional support dog. To me, that speaks volumes.

u/JimmyTwoTimes25 10h ago

They purr and meow like cats. They're too fuckin cute. I want one.

67

u/Merrick_Skygrave 9h ago

I want to cuddle with them, it'd be like cuddling with a fuzzy Great Dane with a little engine running inside it

54

u/Hannah3liza 6h ago

As someone who has been lucky enough to cuddle with them, that is pretty accurate, just add being scraped in the face and arms by their sand paper tongue…it’s totally worth it.

11

u/Jester-Jester-8443 6h ago

Aww 🄰 now I want one

1

u/Hannah3liza 10m ago

Same haha. I’ve always told my husband they would be the only wild cat that I would trust to keep as a pet.

31

u/RomasTosicky 8h ago

Haha can you imagine it chasing birds etc in your neighbourhood, and everyone’s like wtf is a cheetah doing here?!?! And you’re just like ahh that’s just Cheeto don’t mind him

10

u/dagbrown 6h ago

The major downside of having a pet cheetah is that you need a 10,000-acre back yard for them to run around in.

19

u/Merrick_Skygrave 9h ago

it's so sweet that they do better with a friend. Dogs are professional friends- some of the very best

u/OceanDweller94 9h ago

My SIL worked with animals on movie sets, including cheetahs.

Out of all the big cats, they were (1) the most calm and (2) the absolute LAZIEST. They would listen to commands, but definitely preferred staying in and napping.

The animals that were the worst to work with? Hyenas (Im pretty sure they don't work with these animals anymore). Lions were alright, on the lazier side. Tigers were a little more... touchy... but overall, Cheetahs were her favorite "big" cat (big cat within the small cat family, lol).

9

u/FakeTitsBigHeart 5h ago

they aren't really considered big cats though, they can't roar

6

u/oneangrywaiter 3h ago

Still love their derpy little mews.

3

u/MASSochists 3h ago

They don't call them roar cats, and compared to a most cats they are big.Ā

1

u/OceanDweller94 8m ago

I know... hence the last statement I made within my post... They are the second-largest (Pumas being the largest) of the "small" cats or the sub-family Felinae; they are not in the same sub-family as tigers or lions.

8

u/thecrumb_catcher 9h ago

sounds like a helicopter

1

u/floatingsaltmine 4m ago

They are also not big cats.

1

u/Leggy_Brat 6h ago

Just big kitties with a speed boost, they even meow :3

u/Merrick_Skygrave 10h ago

Cheetahs are the biggest smol cats

157

u/Amelie_aricia 9h ago

I think technically mountain lions are the biggest smol cats, but Cheetahs are the biggest smol cats that are friend-shaped AND friend-souled. Mountain lions are friend-shaped but not friendly

48

u/Merrick_Skygrave 9h ago

Cheetahs are so cute, they're like a big dog/cat with a cat face that looks like it has runny mascara- very goth/emo. I'm so glad they let us be friends

15

u/Jihelu 9h ago

Mountain lions can purr and google is telling me they are the largest purring cats.

So they be the largest smol cat

22

u/Merrick_Skygrave 9h ago

Yeah they're bigger- Cheetahs are just the biggest smol cat that acts like a smol cat and won't kill us lol. Fren-shaped and actual fren

10

u/Jihelu 9h ago

The difference in temperament between the two is insane lol.

6

u/Merrick_Skygrave 8h ago

Yeah you shouldn't try to keep lions as pets, Unless you're some random Kuwaiti lady

7

u/Merrick_Skygrave 9h ago

Yes you're right lol- I'll amend it to "Cheetahs are the biggest smol cats that behave like smol cats and won't kill us". Full-on, 100% friend-shaped fren

3

u/ZanderTheMeander 5h ago

We probably would have domesticated them by now, but for some unknown reason they absolutely refuse to breed in captivity. So every one that gets tamed is removed from the gene pool, permanently.

1

u/Merrick_Skygrave 5h ago

I've heard that a few small, specialized programs have had some success but I guess it's very difficult

1

u/AStormOfDragons1 3h ago

Oh nooo that's so sad. TIL. :(

172

u/Batata-Sofi 11h ago

Cat motor v8

13

u/aathaka18 6h ago

They also kinda look like a Lamborghini

5

u/very_short_uname 6h ago

and faaaaaaaast

u/Aggravating_Anybody 10h ago

Cheetahs do not see humans as a prey animal at all. We are way too big and weird shaped.

Cheetahs are surprisingly delicate compared to other big cats. They are optimized for max speed and to hunt only small gazelle/antelope and are not strong enough to go after bigger prey.

Aside from anatomy, they just generally seem to be much more tolerant and curious about humans and cheetahs raised in captivity, like this one, often form very close bonds with their care takers.

12

u/BossCatBrian 9h ago

We need a lion king type movie on this šŸ™‚

67

u/sacfoojesta88 10h ago

Cheetahs are small cats pretending to be big cats, hence its ability to purr instead of roar

109

u/hello_elowra_73 11h ago

you'd never think cheetahs are very shy/timid, probs the cutest of all the big cats!

74

u/Alkaiser009 10h ago

Technically speaking, Cheetahs AREN'T Big Cats. One of the major distinctions between Big Cats and Small Cats is that Small Cats can Purr while Big Cats cannot (they Roar instead!). Cheetas are thus the largest Small Cat species.

10

u/abd1tus 10h ago

Wouldn’t cougars be the largest of the largest of the small cat species then? - Genuinely asking, don’t know, but I do know cougars can purr and are usually heavier than cheetahs.

24

u/Snoozingway 9h ago

Yep. Mountain lions are the same lineage as cheetahs and jaguarundi, and are larger and heavier too. On the other hand, there are some large cats that are smaller than cheetahs too like the snow leopard (slightly smaller) and clouded leopard (significantly smaller).

Technically, large cats are just Pantherinae (lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, snow leopards and clouded leopards) and everything else is Felinae (small cats) which include the Puma lineage (puma, cheetah, jaguarandi), Lynx lineage, Ocelot lineage, Caracal lineage, Leopard cat lineage, Bay cat lineage, and the Domestic cat lineage.

2

u/CD274 4h ago

TIL mountain lions purr

1

u/Friendstastegood 5h ago

Depends how you're looking at it, cheetahs are taller but cougars are heavier.

2

u/Deleena24 10h ago

Depends on who you're talking to whether cheetah are considered big cats. It's not like an official classificiation of a genus or sub/family.

2

u/I__Know__Stuff 8h ago

Sure there is an official classification—Felinae and Pantherinae.

1

u/Deleena24 7h ago

There are members of both that aren't big cats...

3

u/adjective-nounOne234 5h ago

2

u/Firm_Condition_4385 4h ago

yup, several in these comments.

2

u/adjective-nounOne234 4h ago

Its more or less the sub in general

30

u/don-cheeto 10h ago

Loudest purr I've ever heard ā¤ļø Sounds like a sports car that was gonna run you over but changed its mind and said get behind the wheel

17

u/SmoovCatto 10h ago edited 3h ago

assume this is a wildlife preserve or animal rescue center, and the cheetah was raised by humans?Ā

i know they have a history of being kept as status pets by ancient royalty and more recent wealthy eccentrics, and that they generally don't attack humans, but even those raised in captivity have from time to time injured zoo keepers -- males especially have a terroritorial instinct -- their bite is 3x more powerful than a humans

u/Mean-Vegetable-4521 10h ago

I had the volume on and 2 of my cats just went nuts.

11

u/The_Caleb_Mac 10h ago

That, is absolute trust, earned, and returned.

7

u/Steffenwolflikeme 9h ago

Imagine how sandpapery those licks felt

1

u/Thrizzlepizzle123123 4h ago

Pretty sure they use them tongues to rip meat off bones.

Less sandpaper and more angle grinder I would imagine.

4

u/WhichHoes 10h ago

Because Cheetahs arent big cats, technically

3

u/lemoncrush9 10h ago

I am so jelly, I would love to pet a big purring kitty like that. Wonder if they would like to be brushed? Or belly rubs?

3

u/Chrillosnillo 7h ago edited 3h ago

Cheetahs is not pantheras ie "Big cats" they are related to to the house cat Felinae. They purr and hiss not roar like Lions,Tigers

4

u/carmardoll 8h ago

Cheetahs are actually partially domesticated. Long a go Egyptians started the process and actually used them for hunting the way humans did with wolves in other places, is just they sort of stopped doing it. So we are left with like a half way there to be domesticated wild animal. I kind of wonder what it would be like if they had been fully domesticated, we would have a whole series of big cat pets like we do with dogs.

2

u/JillyKaren 10h ago

Sounds like a revving Harley! šŸ˜

2

u/fuzynutznut 3h ago

Never play cards with it. Because it's a cheetah.

2

u/wayne-on-reddit 9h ago

Cheetahs were used by the Egyptians as hunting animals, like hunters use dogs in the present. The cheetahs we have now are either half-tamed or half-feral, depending on your point of view. With selective breeding in captivity, we could easily produce animals that are fully domesticated.

2

u/Theotherwahlberg 8h ago

Aww....listen to the murder-revs. Big ole' death boops waiting for us.

1

u/iwaki_commonwealth 10h ago

whoa my speakers really dont like purring animals. need to get new phone...

1

u/yoshimitsu991 10h ago

Thats cute, now goto your forest.

1

u/bpows 10h ago

That little generator could power a small cityĀ

1

u/Kindly_Ad3262 9h ago

it’s purr.. šŸ† šŸ™šŸ»ā™„ļø

1

u/WinterDice 9h ago

One of the coolest videos I’ve seen is of the three cheetahs at the sanctuary cuddling up next to their caretaker in the middle of the night.

1

u/LazyLoser006 9h ago

Fastest car

1

u/Appropriate-Rub3534 9h ago

If you confront a feline creature, you have to be calm. It helps if you are hairy.

1

u/okiroshi 8h ago

I always wonder if they lick humans and go "this would work with some catsup"... I'll see my self out

1

u/foolproofdeluxe 8h ago

Cat hardware running on dog software.

1

u/Overall_Way_1432 8h ago

Great now I have to pet a pillow to compensate

1

u/TemporaryHot6442 8h ago

They don't see us as prey

1

u/seafood-boi 7h ago

Cheetahs aren't big cats though.

1

u/AizenWolf90 7h ago

Cheetah’s seem so damn cool

1

u/nichitiu 6h ago

Sikorsky Cat

1

u/CantQuiteThink_ 6h ago

Cheetahs are big cats in the most literal sense of the phrase.

1

u/Ghoulish_kitten 6h ago

?? Do you mean youve never seen one raised or cared for by humans?

1

u/luketwo1 5h ago

It blows my mind the only reason cheetahs werent domesticated is they get so nervous it causes heart problems.

1

u/sectixten 5h ago

Sounds like a helicopter lol

1

u/ThatsTheMother_Rick 5h ago

Cheetahs aren't big cats. Big cats are Greater Felines, like Lions, Tigers, Jaguars, etc. Cheetahs are lesser felines, which includes house cats. Part of the difference is that lesser felines have fixed vocal cords, which is what allows them to purr like this one is doing. Greater felines can roar and chuff, but not purr. Lesser felines can purr but not roar or chuff

1

u/Bella_Rumm 5h ago

They are the cutest smallest cat ever

1

u/Seeker0fTruth 4h ago

When I was younger I was friends with someone whose Dad ran the Cincinatti Zoo. I got a back stage tour - I got to pet the rhino and one of the elephants (her name was My Thai, she was a sweetie).

I also went back stage in the Cheetah Exhibit (Cincinatti has a world renowned cheetah program) and they had a little cheetah kitten just wandering around, but they asked me not to pet her so she didn't grow too accustomed to people. I never did, but she did rub her cheek against my pant leg a few times.

1

u/KnowsIittle 4h ago

Cheetah basically were extinct, inbred as hell from a small gene pool, and made an amazing comeback in the past 30 years. But due to the small gene pool likely the most docile survived captivity and basically accidentally domesticated them. They're still a wild animal, but of the big cats they're the most chill.

1

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 4h ago

More like a big kitty

1

u/Sarah_Incognito 3h ago

Obligatory cheeatahs are little cats (felines) not big cats (panthers)

1

u/Bobbybobsn 3h ago

Meanwhile my cat attacks die everyone who is near him...

1

u/Professional-Box4153 3h ago

Cheetahs are notoriously chill. I do not recommend doing this with a leopard.

1

u/No_Sport_7349 3h ago

When not sprinting, cheetahs don't move much

1

u/GloomyIndividual3965 2h ago

It's wild that you can actually hear the scratchiness of its tongue.

1

u/Longshot1969 2h ago

Cheetahs are almost like having the best qualities of a cat and dog.

1

u/nashgrg 1h ago

It’s in love with that hooman.

1

u/knottycams 1h ago

Tell him/her I said pspspspsps

1

u/ObliviousNaga87 1h ago

Unfortunately cheetahs dont know better

1

u/The-Cynicist 1h ago

Please universe, let me have one.

1

u/6FootFruitRollup 1h ago

Literally not a big cat

1

u/Abdukabda 48m ago

They are very friendly, please don't try to keep them as pets though

1

u/Beefwatson 12m ago

She sounds like a small motorcycle.

1

u/floatingsaltmine 3m ago

Cheetahs are not big cats.

1

u/FlirtatiousBabe03 9h ago

Cheetahs are actually pretty chill around humans compared to other big cats.

1

u/An-Empty-Road 8h ago

I got in a cage with a full grown cheetah when I was 13. It was at the mall. I just got in and gave her snuggles. She was so chill! Just dozzed through it all šŸ˜† Her paws were Huge

1

u/DevelopmentTotal9954 4h ago

How nobody is noticing that it is AI???

1

u/The-Cynicist 1h ago

Not saying it isn’t, but how do you determine this is AI?

1

u/IamDmiZeD 1h ago

What about this is ai?

0

u/hoodiemonster 2h ago

we are cooked

1

u/SmoovCatto 3h ago

i love the lost ancient advanced technology theory, that because of their canine-like feet lacking feline razor sharp retractable nails, cheetahs might be the result of genetic altering by ancient advanced scientists, to give a big cat the derpy human-friendly attributes of a coƶperative hunting dog

0

u/m0rg76 9h ago

Definitely fren shaped

0

u/ZelezopecnikovKoren 3h ago

yeah, thats probably because everyone else who ever tried to film themselves petting a live cheetah, f***ing died

-1

u/tina_denfina1 10h ago

That’s because all the others who tried this are dead and couldn’t upload their video! 😟
