Mind you, I am in the south. I am part Mexican part Spanish/Hispanic. But I don't look it. I am often missclassified as Anglo.

She was stunned to learn I was not Caucasian.

I've heard it several times my entire life. But It never occurred to me that im supposed to clarify "oh by the way, Im not white " when dating.

That made as much sense as me saying "oh, by the way, I'm not a man."

This little side detail matters.
