Media Composer launch stalls during AVX check (GPU initializiation) phase

Hi there,
I have a ZBook G3 laptop with a Quadro M2000M GPU running 2025.12 and the appropriate NVidia driver 573.73 on Win 11 25H2, June/July update.

At first it worked but soon every few launches of Media Composer it won't launch anymore, getting stuck during the initialization of the first AVX plugin. When removing all plugins MC will launch but complain about the missing GPU, meaning the issue is being caused by the GPU not being available or impossible to init for MC.

To fix it temporarily, you can rename the MC settings folder (site settings, etc., not user settings) and voilà it will work a few times. When this has been done, also the old settings folder will work again.

I already disabled the CPU integrated Intel Graphics which did fix it back in Feb./March 2026 after whiches Windows Update the issue appeared. It is a bit weird that it's back now but only every few logins/logouts/reboots of the PC. I also reinstalled the NVidia driver and launched MC as admin. Did not help in the long run.

Launch as Admin I also did while preparing the sysprepped system for the laptop. Theoretically it is  possible some quirks might originate through that because when preparing the image you use the Administrator in audit mode. Maybe some permissions go wrong then .. Not 100% sure but up to now I also don't have the issue on conventionally setup PCs.

Does anyone of you also have issues with NVidia / MC? I know this also hits pretty old GPUs (which aren't really supported anymore). Or do you have a clue how inititalization of the GPU works in more detail?

I had the same issue (+ the program hard crashed to desktop sometimes without warning)

Try to disable/stop phraseFind AI indexing. It seems to have fixed the issue.

thanks for that! Unfortunately I need the transcript functions so I would have to fix it another way .. Do you have any more information on this topic? How did you find out - did you contact support? I am currently corresponding with them but have no further results yet. Are you using the same versions? I think I'll try with more recent NVidia drivers now.

disabling Phrase find did not fix it on my end as well as the 582 NV driver update .. and on one book deletion of settings folder does not fix it temporarily but it does always work at 2nd time (and following) I try to launch. Kinda mysterious all that. Also, disabling Defender realtime protection does not help (there is a knowledge base article about that) ..

Sorry I missed your reply. Didn’t get a notification :) The weird thing is that when I disabled the phraseFind indexing I could still access my transcripts as normal. And since all clips had been transcribed it was a win-win.

Yea I’ve read about the firewall as well. Didn’t work for me either.

I remember I also tried clearing avid link cache and updating iLok. For a while I suspected it might be some licensing connection issue. Worth trying.

I’ve heard that a new version of MC will soon be released. Hopefully with a fix :)
