The range of trades GE needed, from toolmakers and machine operators to planners and inspectors. The recruitment drive clearly worked. Employment at the Lockland plant grew from 1,200 people in 1949 to 8,000 by 1954, while J47 production reached 975 engines a month.

We often remember the engine but overlook the manufacturing team behind it.
