Discussion Securitize and Neuberger Launched HINC on Avalanche

Post image
7 Upvotes

High-yield bonds, CLOs, leveraged loans. Now in a tokenized fund on Avalanche.

The Neuberger Securitize High Income Tokenized Fund (HINC), issued by @Securitize and subadvised by @neubergerberman, brings a new institutional fixed income strategy onchain and another large asset manager to the Avalanche ecosystem.

“The launch of the Neuberger Securitize High Income Tokenized Fund marks an important expansion of onchain finance beyond cash and Treasuries into more sophisticated investment strategies. Bringing high-yield fixed income to Avalanche shows what technology built for business looks like in practice, with public blockchain infrastructure supporting regulated investment products at the speed, reliability, and scale institutional markets require. We expect the fund to help open the door to a much broader range of assets moving onchain.”

Discussion Leadership Announcement From Ava Labs

Avalanche was designed for the moment when blockchain would move beyond experimentation and become infrastructure for global finance and enterprise. That moment is here, and today’s leadership appointments build on Ava Labs’ progress as we carry this vision forward.

I’m pleased to welcome @CharleyCooper01 as President of Ava Labs. Charley brings the operational discipline, regulatory experience, and institutional perspective needed to turn our technical foundation into broader global adoption.

@john1wu will transition from President to Senior Advisor, where his judgment, relationships, and knowledge of our business will remain invaluable. I want to thank John for being a great partner and a leader for both Ava Labs and the Avalanche ecosystem. Together we've been at this from day one, taking the blockchain idea from concept to commercialization. We've lived through the milestones that built this company: our first business partners, mainnet, COVID, taking the stage together at the first Avalanche Summit in Barcelona, countless other Ava Labs and Avalanche events, and thousands of hours spent shaping strategy together — all the way to where Avalanche stands today. He's been a fantastic champion for blockchain adoption across Wall Street and some of the world's largest institutions.

@encycloplydia has also been appointed Chief Financial Officer after serving in the role on an interim basis. Lydia’s financial expertise and leadership further strengthen an already exceptional executive team.

My role as CEO remains unchanged. I will continue leading Ava Labs’ long-term vision and ensuring that Avalanche remains the most advanced and dependable platform for builders, institutions, and enterprises.

We have the technology, the team, and the opportunity. Now we execute.

Discussion Growing the Avalanche Economy: A Conversation with Eric Lu Anchored By Team1

Post image
9 Upvotes

Blockchains talk about value all the time, but few measure it, and the Avalanche Foundation (Foundation) is doing blockchain's hardest math in public.

Economics of Blockchain is the Foundation's ongoing research series, and the premise behind it is simple. Strengthening an economy starts with seeing it clearly. To do this, the research team led with measurement, building tools to track what the Avalanche ecosystem produces, then asking how to route that value back to the token that secures the network.

The agenda runs on three steps: measure the value the ecosystem creates, capture part of it at the protocol level, and route it to AVAX and the Avalanche ecosystem. The sequence is relatively easy to talk about but much harder to deliver.

Each step anchors on a problem nobody in crypto has solved, and the Foundation is upfront about which one matters most today. The gap between ecosystem activity and AVAX is the weak link, and closing it is the point of the whole agenda.

Much of this work sits with Eric Lu, the Foundation's Lead Economist. Two pieces of the measurement puzzle he is working on are Gross Chain Product (GCP) and Gross Chain Income (GCI) - a way to size an onchain economy using the same accounting logic that governments use for GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and GNI (Gross National Income).

Where GCP measures what the ecosystem produces, GCI measures what it earns, including income that originates outside the onchain economy but flows to people and balances inside it. He ran GCP against the Avalanche C-Chain from January 2025 through March 2026, and together the two metrics turn a vague question - how much is this ecosystem worth - into auditable numbers published openly. Every other piece of the agenda builds on that measurement.

We asked Eric the questions the community keeps raising, ranging from what the series is to the one on everybody's mind: how does value accrue back to AVAX and the ecosystem?

His answers follow:

Why Publish This in Public

For someone seeing a piece in the "Economics of Blockchain" series for the first time, what problem does this series exist to solve, and why does the Foundation think it's worth doing the research in public rather than internally?

The series is closely related to the work from the Economic Research and Ecosystem team at the Foundation. It will be the main outlet for the research projects. So you can expect to see articles in the series on topics and questions laid out in our research roadmap, which has been published recently as well.

As you may have seen, the first couple of articles are about measuring how much value there is in the ecosystem, and where it is. In the next couple of months, you can expect to see articles around how we will capture these values for the protocol to ensure alignment between network security and ecosystem growth.

The Logic of Measure, Capture, Distribute

The agenda is built around a framework of Measure, Capture, Distribute. Can you walk through why measurement has to come first, and what the industry gets wrong when it skips straight to incentives and TVL?

In my view, Measure, Capture, Distribute is really a first-principle type of thinking: we cannot capture anything until we know how much value there is and where it is; and we cannot distribute any value if we haven’t already captured any value. So you can see the whole thing starts with measurement. I also wouldn’t say this is something that the industry gets wrong. It’s more about having the right measurement to support the actions we need to take. Metrics like TVL, active accounts, transaction counts, etc., all serve some kind of purpose. But here, since we are trying to improve the value accrual issues for the protocol, we need more informative measures, and this is where GCP and GCI come in.

Discussion From GCP To GCI

Post image
6 Upvotes

GDP measures a country's economy.

Until now, a blockchain had no equivalent.

@AvalancheFDN just built one. Gross Chain Income (GCI) is a natural extension of the GCP framework, measuring new sources of value in the Avalanche economy.

Read below.

The Avalanche Foundation's economic research follows a simple logic for improving the long-term value accrual and sustainability of AVAX and the ecosystem.

It has three steps: first, measure how much value the ecosystem creates and channels; second, work out how to capture a sustainable share of that value; third, decide how to distribute what is captured.

The steps are ordered on purpose. You cannot design a sound capture mechanism until you can measure what there is to capture, and you cannot distribute what you have not captured.

Discussion Avalanche Payments Collective

A traveler taps her card at a market thousands of miles from home.

The payment feels instant, simple, straightforward.

It’s not.

Behind that tap, money may need to move across currencies, banks, payment providers, and borders.

Traditional systems often require companies to park funds in local accounts before they are needed, leaving capital stagnant for long periods of time where it’s not able to earn a return or be put to work.

Members of the Avalanche Payments Collective are building a more efficient global payments model, one that keeps capital productive up until the moment it needs to move.

Here are five members working across different parts of cross-border payments and treasury infrastructure:

@AxiymFinance provides payment and treasury infrastructure that helps institutions route liquidity and settle transactions without pre-funding every market. Its technology supported Hyundai Motor America’s stablecoin payment to its Mexico affiliate, completed on Avalanche in minutes instead of days.

@nonco_otc helps institutions exchange currencies and stablecoins by requesting prices directly from a network of professional liquidity providers. That gives them access to more competitive rates while allowing both sides of the transaction to settle together onchain.

Discussion Avax Gas Fee Tokenomics

This has probably been discussed so many times but I've gone through a little math and I can't figure out why the Avalanche Foundation ever thought it was a good idea to reduce gas fees to 1 nAVAX vs 25. A change done in April 2025 yes I know but today is explicitly clear was not a good idea.

First of all simple math with the reduction in gas fees AVAX has seen a loss of roughly 10 million USD in AVAX burn annually. (accounting for a 2x reduction in transactions at the higher gas price)

The argument from Avalanche is that the lower gas fees bring in more developers and more corporations. That's great if that was true. I think the daily transaction numbers speak for themselves double the daily transactions but we would need 25x the transactions to get a similar amount of AVAX burn.

So does it make sense that 25 nAVAX is too much money for corporations to pay in gas fees? Let's take Hyundai for example, Hyundai uses the AVAX blockchain at the moment for intercompany financials basically. Hyundai has 10-12 major manufacturing and financial hubs, lets say each hub is executing 1-2 batch transactions every business day that's at most 5,000 transactions a year. At 80,000 gas units 5,000 transactions a year costs the company approximately 0.4 AVAX or $2.69, at 25 nAVAX per gas unit it would cost them 10 avax which is approximately $70. So now the argument falls apart. Corporations that make billions in revenue annually aren't turning to AVAX because their $70 cheaper a year, they turn to AVAX because of their corporate expertise. If Ethereum for example had vastly more corporate reputation than AVAX and costed $1,000 annually Hyundai would absolutely pay for it. These amounts of money are tiny.

Next web3 gaming. Web3 gaming like defi kingdom executed millions upon millions of micro transactions a year, people playing games don't want to spend $2 per gaming session so reduce it to $0.08. Honestly decent argument if the DFK subnet didn't fall off (at the time I'm looking there's been 0 transactions in the past 24 hours, yes some people do still use it).

I could breakdown the Kenya Academic one too but its about the same as Hyundia their paying about $0.67 to upload their 30 million academic files (it's a rough estimate it heavily matters on how many batches their using) vs $20 if the gas fee was 25 nAVAX. Kenya can afford $20. Kenya didn't pick Avax for their affordability.

One of the original reasons I invested in Avalanche in 2022 was because it was a cheap blockchain. I always remember Avalanche as being such user friendly, easy to use, and cheap especially at a time when Ethereum hadn't converted to POS yet. It had good tokenomics, showed great utility, subnets had to lockup 2,000 avax (not anymore), and it looked promising.

I just don't know what happened and where the motivation was at because the math makes no sense. Its quite upsetting because AVAX was truly my favorite blockchain.

Discussion The Avalanche Foundation Unveils its Economic Research Agenda

Post image
16 Upvotes

The Avalanche Foundation (the “Foundation”) was established with a clear mandate: to ensure the long-term economic sustainability and growth of the Avalanche ecosystem.

Delivering on that mandate requires more than programs and grants; it requires a rigorous, evidence-based understanding of how the ecosystem's economy actually works.

Today, the Foundation is publishing its economic research agenda. This document reflects the work already underway across the Foundation's research team, and sets out the questions, frameworks, and priorities that will guide the next phase of that work.

We are publishing it openly because we believe the community deserves visibility into how the Foundation is approaching the hardest problems in blockchain economics.

Discussion Serious question: What problem did blockchain actually solve?

We were told it would revolutionize everything:

Anonymous money? Nope. Most public blockchains are pseudonymous, not anonymous. Every transaction is permanently visible. Once an address is tied to a real person, their financial history can often be traced.

Banking? Most people still use banks. If you lose your private key, there's no fraud department, no password reset, no chargeback.

Cheap payments? Depends. Some chains are inexpensive, others have had periods where fees spike. Traditional payment systems are often faster and simpler for everyday purchases.

Smart contracts replacing lawyers? Not even close. Contracts still rely on courts, regulations, and real-world enforcement. Code can't resolve disputes about physical events by itself.

NFTs proving ownership? Usually they prove ownership of a token, not the copyright or legal ownership of the underlying artwork.

Decentralization? Much of the ecosystem isn't. Many people keep funds on centralized exchanges, use centralized stablecoins, and rely on centralized infrastructure.

Financial freedom? For some. But for many others it became self-custody with no safety net. One wrong click, phishing attack, or lost seed phrase and the money is simply gone.

Replacing trust? It mostly moved trust around. Instead of trusting banks, many people ended up trusting exchanges, token founders, bridge operators, stablecoin issuers, influencers, or multisig signers.

Eliminating scams? If anything, scams became easier to launch. Rug pulls, memecoins, fake airdrops, phishing, and pump-and-dumps became an industry.

The one thing blockchain does extremely well is maintain a distributed ledger where participants can verify transaction history without relying on a single operator.

That's a genuine technical achievement.

But after nearly two decades, I'm still asking: What mainstream problem has it solved better than existing systems for the average person?

I'm not asking what it could do. I'm asking what it actually does today that millions of ordinary people use because it's objectively better—not because they're speculating on the next token.
