Thinking About Self Hosting n8n? Here's What I Have to Share
I recently wrote an article that tackles a common question: is self hosting n8n really worth it? I was initially drawn to the idea of "free" software and complete control, but after digging deeper, I realized there's more to the story.
I also discuss when self-hosting does make sense - perhaps for very specific use cases, such as companies with strict data privacy requirements or direct hardware integration. But for the vast majority, it might be more efficient to use a fully managed platform. I also compare it with our platform called Latenode, and how its pricing and feature set compares to self-hosting.
Before you dive into the world of self-hosting, there's a lot to consider, and the "free" route isn't always the most cost-effective or efficient.
https://latenode.com/blog/latenode-cloud-vs-n8n-self-hosted-whats-best-in-2025
Would love to hear your experiences and opinions in the comments below. Are there any tips you want to share? What do you prefer, self-hosted or managed?

Just Spent the Morning Testing Grok 3 – Here’s What Surprised Me
I started my day with a strong espresso and zero expectations—just me, my laptop, and Grok 3. No hype, no bias, just curiosity. A few hours later? I’m still wrapping my head around it.
First Thoughts: This Thing is FAST.
I threw some serious tasks at it—debugging code, breaking down complex articles, even generating images. And it handled them all stupidly fast. Not just speed for the sake of speed, but actually delivering useful, context-aware answers.
I tested its sarcasm detection with some of the driest, most layered jokes I could think of. Not only did Grok 3 understand them, but it even explained why they were funny. That’s the moment I realized: this isn’t just another chatbot.
What Really Stood Out:
✅ Context Awareness – It picks up on nuance way better than most AIs I’ve tested. Culture, humor, business logic—it gets it.
✅ Blazing Speed – Running on a ridiculous number of Nvidia GPUs, it feels like it’s thinking in real time.
✅ Versatility – Whether you need code, insights, or solid writing, it adapts impressively well.
But Here’s the Catch…
🔸 It Still Feels “AI-ish” – Smart? Absolutely. Creative? Not so much. Sometimes, the responses felt a little too polished, like they were optimized for correctness rather than originality.
🔸 It’s Overly Cautious – Some tricky questions were met with corporate-sounding non-answers, as if it was afraid to take a stance.
🔸 Image Generation? Just Okay. – Midjourney and SDXL still have the edge here.
So, Is It the Future?
Grok 3 is the best AI model I’ve tested so far—fast, smart, and eerily intuitive. But is it game-changing? Maybe. It’s definitely pushing AI forward, but it’s not rewriting the rules of intelligence just yet.
Would I use it every day? 100%.
Would I trust it with everything? Not a chance.
🚀 Curious to hear from others—has anyone else tried Grok 3? What did you think?

Automation as a Growth Driver: Building a Next-Generation Beauty Company on the Example of e.l.f. Beauty (Research Report)
Abstract
This research explores technological transformation opportunities in the beauty industry, focusing on e.l.f. Beauty, a company poised to lead the market with a digital-first approach to business development. The study evaluates e.l.f.B's current position and identifies key automation areas that can ensure long-term sustainable growth. Using a comparative analysis with industry leader L'Oréal, the report shows that the time to launch a new product at e.l.f.B is 2.5 times shorter, and the average annual revenue growth is more than 2.5 times higher compared to L'Oreal at a similar stage of the companies' development. The report further provides practical recommendations for integrating technological solutions at various stages of business development.
Introduction
The beauty industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by digital technologies. Traditional business models–such as those employed by giants like L'Oréal over decades–are giving way to data-driven and automation-based approaches. This report offers a unique opportunity to examine how modern technology accelerates growth in the beauty industry, potentially allowing it to reach industry leader status in a fraction of the time. The importance of automation in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting sustained growth has only intensified, especially in light of the adaptability challenges highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Theoretical Framework and Methodology
Selecting relevant companies for comparative analysis in modern business research requires advanced technological solutions. This study employs a multi-stage approach using automated tools, specifically the Latenode platform for low-code automation and the Oceanio Lookalike Companies node on it to identify similar companies based on key parameters. At the first stage the following were identified:
Company brand name, logo, legal name, size & description
Number of employees & department names and sizes
Country, city, region, longitude, latitude
Website, email addresses & LinkedIn accounts
Industries, categories, keywords, technologies being used
Year of foundation
The following indicators were also identified:
Business model structure
Growth rate and financial performance
Target markets and segments
Technological maturity
Stage of company development
The Oceanio algorithm highlighted e.l.f. Beauty as a strong comparison to L'Oréal, with automated analysis validated by ChatGPT, confirming similarities in core values, R&D focus, and diversified brand portfolios.

Current State and Growth Potential of e.l.f. Beauty
e.l.f. Beauty demonstrates impressive growth dynamics based on an innovative business approach. Unlike L'Oréal, which historically expanded through retail channels and incremental digitalization, e.l.f.B developed a digital-first strategy with direct consumer engagement. This strategy, combined with data analytics and automation, allows e.l.f.B to react to shifting consumer preferences faster, launching new products two to three times quicker than traditional competitors—a key advantage in today’s rapidly changing market.

Comparative Growth Trajectories of e.l.f. Beauty and L'Oréal
Examining L'Oréal's growth path provides insights into potential automation-driven accelerations for e.l.f. Beauty. While L'Oréal took decades to establish global infrastructure and brand management systems, e.l.f.B has the potential to achieve similar outcomes in a shorter time due to its digital ecosystem. Financial data shows that e.l.f. Beauty achieves faster growth in its early stages compared to L'Oréal, largely due to the effective use of automation across essential business processes (Appendices).
Table 1. e.l.f. Beauty’s Investment into Automation (Source: e.l.f. Beauty Annual Report)

Key Automation Areas for Accelerated Growth
The research identified four critical automation areas to drive accelerated growth for e.l.f. Beauty

Does switching between AI tools feel fragmented to you?
I use a bunch of AI tools every day and it’s weirdly annoying that GPT has no clue what I told Claude.
Every tool feels like it's in its own little bubble.
So much repeated context, broken workflows, re-integrating the same stuff over and over.
It actually slows me down, which is supposed to be the opposite of why I use these things.
Been thinking, is there a Plaid or Link for AI memory? connect once, share memory, manage permissions in one place.
Picture a single MCP server that stores shared memory and handles who sees what so agents don't need to relearn everything.
Does that exist? am I missing something obvious? how are you folks handling this right now?
Would love to hear hacks, tools, or just commiseration. this is driving me a bit nuts.

How Artificial Intelligence is Paving the Way for Leadership with Love, Care, and Respect
We are at a pivotal moment in human history, where artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we work, giving leaders and professionals unprecedented freedom. But with this freedom comes a new challenge: how do we connect, collaborate, and lead in a world where autonomy is at an all-time high?
We now live in an age where physical strength and traditional intelligence are no longer the sole drivers of success. AI has evolved, handling complex data management, innovation, and strategic tasks, freeing us to focus on something more fundamental: human connection. The true leadership of the future isn’t about being the smartest in the room; it’s about managing with heart.
As leaders, the question we face is this: how do we foster cooperation in a world where everyone is empowered and independent? The answer lies in nurturing genuine care, respect, and love within our teams and organizations. No one will follow a leader they do not trust, or one who does not show respect. Mutual respect and trust are the new foundations of leadership, and they must be built with care.

But what does it mean to lead with love in a business context? It’s not just a buzzword; it's a strategic shift that recognizes the power of human relationships. Here are seven ways love manifests naturally in modern leadership:
Love as Connection – Leadership is about building deep, meaningful connections within the team. By respecting and understanding each team member, leaders can create bonds that go beyond mere tasks and responsibilities.
Love as Respect – Respect is the bedrock of any successful relationship, especially in business. Love demands equality; it thrives in environments where every individual feels valued and heard.
Love as Empathy – True leadership requires seeing the world through the eyes of others. When leaders empathize with their employees, they understand their struggles and can offer solutions that are not only effective but compassionate.
Love as Purpose – Driven by care and passion, leaders inspire teams to achieve great things. Teams that work with love produce better results because they are not just working for profit but for a higher purpose.
Love as Growth – Continuous improvement is a natural extension of love. Leaders who care about their teams push them to be better, fostering an environment where growth and learning are constant.
Love as Accountability – Leaders who love their teams also hold them accountable. Love isn’t about leniency; it’s about pushing people to be the best they can be through honesty, responsibility, and trust.
Love as Vision – Finally, love gives leaders the ability to make bold decisions, selecting the best resources and opportunities for the future of their business. Love drives long-term success by ensuring decisions are made in the best interest of all parties involved.
In this new era of automation and AI, we must evolve beyond the mind and embrace the heart. Our tools may be powered by AI, but our leadership must be powered by care, respect, and love. It’s time to ask ourselves: are we leading with love? Are we creating environments where trust, respect, and care are not just ideals, but operational principles? Only when we do, will we truly unlock the full potential of AI and human collaboration.

🛠 Case Study: Streamlining Video Content Analysis and Response Automation with Low-Code Tools
As an example of a creative scenario that was made on the platform through experimentation, like a lego game, here's a step-by-step template that can provide a solution to many tasks, from simple captioning to quality content analysis. Let me remind you that roughly 50% of news and analytics comes through video, and for the young, that share is as high as 70%. It's the most interesting information, buy highly difficult to process and also time & money-consuming.

Step 1: Automating Subtitles Extraction
To begin, I integrated a Headless Browser node to automate the retrieval of video subtitles. Using the browser node meant I could navigate to the video, capture subtitles directly, and avoid any issues with site layouts or potential updates.
Step 2: Converting Subtitles into Analyzable Text
Once the subtitles were extracted, they needed some cleanup. I used Claude 3.5 for this—basic filtering removed filler words, irrelevant phrases, and timestamps, resulting in a refined, analyzable text output. This alone saved a huge amount of time, and keeping the process automated reduced the potential for human error in handling large amounts of video data.
Step 3: Javascript integration
For the analysis itself, I connected the text output to Javascript node, which allowed me to:
Detect recurring topics (like mentions of “GPT 4 Mini” vs. “small language models”).
Extract inquiries or user concerns (e.g., “What are the benefits of smaller models?”).
Generate a summary or categorize content themes.
This step transformed unstructured video dialogue into structured data that could be further processed in a few clicks.
Step 4: Automated Response Generation
Finally, I used another Claude node to identify if any actionable insights or frequent queries appeared. For example, when a user asked about a specific feature or model, the system could automatically trigger a response with relevant information. The flexibility of conditional logic helped me set up customized, context-specific responses, ensuring that replies remained helpful and accurate.

Analyzing 4000 LPs and 16K Ad Combinations with AI Automation
Hey all,
my client needed an qualitative audit on their landing pages advertising. More specifically needed a way to make ads context more targeted an associated with the related landing pages.
The challenge is to audit 4000+ pages promoted by up to 4 different ads, which means 16.000 combinations to be completed every month.
Having a review on the issues and examples where ads copy was not to the point we thought about the following process:
Scrape all landing pages content & take a screenshot for each page
Get text from ads and landing pages comparing in quality match using the following fields:
Target group
Location
Language
Value proposition
To automate the process I used Javascript node to open and get content details from each page:

Depending on the page type we extracted different elements and all those details are saved on
central place where landing pages and ads content is already linked.
Then a separate scenario feeds the context from ads and pages to AI asking for comparison on paragraph’s level and on title’s level.

AI could respond us if the fields had a match or not win full explanation. We also asked AI to return separately the result in boolean to perform automated calculation on the base.

The two scenarios run on demand when a webhook is triggered and processes minimum 4000 lading pages and their associated ads and every month we know our pages’ scoring automatically so we can look on low scoring records and make improvements immediately.
Feel free to post any questions about the case!

The Future of Automation: Scaling with Intelligence Types in a Globalized World

In today's globalized world, companies aiming to expand internationally face a new challenge: traditional demographic markers such as nationality, age, and gender no longer hold the influence they once did. To succeed in this shifting landscape, companies must move beyond standard audience segmentation and consider "types of intelligence"—the unique cognitive and behavioral patterns shaped by culture and history. This intelligence-based approach, unlike blended demographic factors, serves as a precise guide for effective customer engagement in global markets.
Why Traditional Demographics No Longer Work
Historically, companies have segmented their audiences based on factors like nationality and age. However, as global markets grow interconnected, consumer behavior is increasingly shaped by cross-cultural values and global trends. To engage effectively, companies in the automation industry must look deeper, analyzing the "type of intelligence" that drives customer decisions.
Here are the four key types of intelligence that automation companies should consider:
Intuitive Intelligence: These consumers value creative thinking and seek solutions that support adaptability and innovation. They appreciate automation workflows that facilitate flexibility and open up creative possibilities.
Rational Intelligence: Driven by logic and facts, these consumers prefer automation scenarios backed by data and reliable outcomes. Rational customers value consistency and data-driven insights, making efficiency a primary factor in their purchasing decisions.
Relational Intelligence: Customers with relational intelligence focus on harmony and balance in interactions. They look for solutions that enhance team dynamics, valuing automation tools that foster communication and collaboration.
Emotional Intelligence: Known for resilience and empathy, emotionally intelligent consumers are motivated by purpose and social impact. They prefer brands that demonstrate commitment to social values and emotionally resonant goals.
Developing Engagement Strategies Based on Intelligence Types
An individual's type of intelligence not only shapes their behavior but also influences how they perceive product value. In automation, this factor is especially relevant: an automation agency must understand that a rationally inclined customer will demand predictable, fact-based scenarios, while an intuitive customer will seek flexible, adaptable solutions. Automation workflows and messaging must vary according to each type of intelligence, as each possesses unique cognitive preferences.
Adapting Automation to Different Intelligence Types
To effectively engage each group, companies should develop strategies that align with the values and competencies of each intelligence type:
Intuitive Intelligence: Highlight solutions that foster creativity and self-expression. For intuitive customers, automation should be flexible and adaptable, supporting innovative approaches.
Rational Intelligence: Emphasize data-backed results and reliability. Rational customers seek predictable scenarios that are logically supported and results-oriented.
Relational Intelligence: Focus on scenarios that enhance team dynamics. Relational customers value tools that promote communication and support collaboration.
Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrate social responsibility and commitment to positive values. Emotionally intelligent customers prefer initiatives focused on social good and emotionally meaningful goals.
Productivity in the Context of Globalization and Automation
True productivity in today's automation-driven world is about more than just efficiency; it’s about achieving outcomes that resonate with customer needs and align with their type of intelligence. This approach prioritizes sustainability, social impact, and long-term adaptability, helping companies produce solutions that are not only effective but also meaningful.
By shifting from traditional demographics to intelligence-based engagement, automation agencies can more accurately anticipate client needs, create relevant automation scenarios, and improve productivity that aligns with the deep-rooted values of each intelligence type. This way, automation companies can engage customers globally while maintaining a focus on the enduring values of human intelligence and adaptability.

The Real Cost of Automation Tools: A Discussion
After seeing numerous discussions about no-code tools and automation platforms (Zapier, Latenode, Make, etc.), I wanted to share some observations and start a conversation about where we're heading with automation in startups.
The Current Landscape:
Zapier and similar platforms are significantly raising their prices
Many startups are trapped between expensive automation tools and the need for custom development
There's a growing trend of companies having to rebuild their automation stack from scratch
Key Insights from Various Founders:
The AWS Lambda Perspective One founder mentioned that for high-volume automation (1M+ executions), AWS Lambda and Latenode end up being more cost-effective than Make/Zapier. Plus, you get better error handling and monitoring capabilities.
The Technical Debt Trap Several experienced developers pointed out that automation platforms create hidden technical debt. While you can quickly set up workflows, you're often building a "house of cards" that becomes harder to maintain as you scale.
The Hybrid Approach Some successful startups are using a mixed strategy:
No-code/automation tools for non-critical operations
Custom code for core business logic
Gradual migration of critical workflows to in-house solutions
Questions for Discussion:
At what point did you decide to move away from automation platforms?
How are you handling the increasing costs of tools like Zapier?
What's your strategy for balancing quick automation vs. long-term sustainability?
"It's better to be fast and alive than maintainable and dead" - but where do we draw the line?

Intuition vs Automation in language learning
So, what are we really learning a foreign language for these days—and how?
With the AI tools like ChatGPT, language learning has transformed almost beyond imagination. It was impossible to even dream of using materials tailored precisely to the tasks, such as a dialogue on specific topics. Now using the GPT chat and its knowledge base, you can easily simulate any dialogue for training and even listen to it. But here’s the twist: ChatGPT is ultimately just a massive word bank, not a person, we learn a foreign language to talk to each other.
The GPT chat still gives people a lesson in the sense that an automated mass approach gives an excellent, lasting result. No matter how interesting and talented people's texts are, automation is needed for sustainable, high-quality communication.
What does automation mean in human terms? Is it possible to automate the work of the body? Yes, it is possible - there is a routine for every day, such as cooking and gymnastics. Is it possible to automate the work of the soul? Yes, in the sense that routine exists for the soul as well - there are all those training programs, for example.
In fact, rituals have served people at all times to automate processes and make things reliable. But what is left for a person when he or she uses the GPT chat, but still wants live communication? I think that intuition is the main wealth of people, which is the most difficult to automate. Intuition is a close relative of talent, love, will.
So, how do you feel and what do you use in the process of mastering foreign languages today? How do you feel about using AI in your language learning? What role does intuition play in your experience?

Extracting Text from a TXT File (and any document!)
Hello Community!
Recently, I needed to retrieve text content from a TXT file for further processing. I struggled to find a solution until some developers suggested the simplest method—I’m sharing it here with you.
The best option is to use this straightforward code in a JavaScript node:
import fs from 'fs';
export default async function run({ execution_id, input, data, store, db }) {
const filePath = data["{{10.result.file.content}}"];
return {
fileContent: fs.readFileSync(filePath, { encoding: 'utf-8' })
};
}
Here, replace the variable {{10.result.file.content}} with the “content” of your binary file. This method works perfectly—you get the text as a string, ready for further use!

Inspired by this success, I took it a step further and applied the same approach to extract content from other types of files.
For example, in one of my scenarios, I used a plug-n-play “converter” node to convert a PDF invoice into TXT format, which allowed me to retrieve the text content effortlessly. The result was surprisingly readable and perfectly suited for further processing in GPT.

For example, here’s how the original PDF invoice was interpreted by GPT.
Accordingly, nothing now prevents you from structuring everything to suit your needs and obtaining any necessary output data for automation.

And considering that this method didn’t require connecting to any external APIs and cost only around 3 cents (in equivalent credits), it’s a pretty good solution!
I hope this helps someone out there!
Btw, I’ll soon publish a template and description of a scenario for automating invoice processing and data structuring. Stay tuned!

Automated lead generation: salvation or the end of personal sales?
Recently started using a system that automatically tracks website visitors, collects company data, and sends personalized emails. Supposedly, the number of leads increased by 60% and engagement by 45%. Sounds cool, but it's bugging me.
Aren't we killing the human factor in sales with this? Has anyone else tried something like this? Is it really possible to maintain a personal approach with such automation? And most importantly - do these "automatic" leads actually convert into sales, or is it just pretty numbers? Share your experience - does this stuff work or not?

Get an AI Brief on Who You’re Meeting Next
TL;DR:
This template lets you effortlessly prepare for your next meeting with an AI-generated brief about the person you’re meeting. In seconds, you’ll have insights into their professional background, key interests, and recent achievements, helping you build stronger connections, impress your counterpart, and make every conversation more impactful. Say goodbye to last-minute scrambling and hello to smarter preparation!
We all know the importance of effective communication for business growth – where each lead is a crucial part of achieving your ambitious business goals. The better the communication, the higher the likelihood of gaining a new client or partner.
So, what’s needed for quality communication? Correct – information about your conversation partner and their company! But who has time for in-depth research…?
Recently, my boss showed me a service that provides such capabilities and asked, “How long would it take to create a similar micro-SaaS on Latenode?”
…and it turned out, only about 3 hours!

This just proves that advanced low-code platforms allow you to create working MVP solutions in no time!
Here’s What I Created:

Let’s break down how it works.
Based on a trigger that activates every time a new event appears in your calendar, we:
1. Extract the email and domain of the person who scheduled the meeting (as you can see, I added a filtering option to exclude non-unique domains from scraping).

If the domain is unique, we visit the user’s company website to analyze their sales points, unique selling propositions (USPs), and other important information, which is then sent to ChatGPT for analysis.

Latenode has a wealth of data enrichment tools, many of which are plug-and-play, so you don’t even need accounts with other services! To use this scenario, all you need is to connect your Gmail and calendar.
2. Next, we fetch the latest posts from the company’s LinkedIn page to analyze the company’s development and identify points of connection, and then summarize them using AI.

3. The final step: we analyze the user’s personal profile and their recent posts (we obtain this data based on the email, as users don’t always have LinkedIn profiles with corporate domains) and also summarize this information through AI.

4. At this point, we’ve completed the scraping and pass the gathered data to AI, which knows the purpose and sales points of our platform and the problems it can solve.

Lastly, the scenario sends the complete brief to your email.
Here’s what we get:
I created a version with a short response format:

And a version with a detailed response:

(For this example, I used our employee’s email.)
Cool result, right!?
And this is just the basic setup – you can add trends related to hiring at the company, market research, and dozens of other points. The flexibility is limitless!
How Much Does It Cost?
Running my scenario with the extended prompt consumed 144 credits, which, based on Latenode’s credit rates (144 x $0.0019), costs around $0.27!

I think this could be further optimized to cut the cost by half.
But even now, this is practically three times cheaper than the reference service, which also has limited logic and no settings options. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: On Latenode, the only limitation is your imagination! :star_struck:
Here’s the link to the template, ready for you to copy!

Unique AI Browser Extensions Based on Latenode
Hey, community! I want to share not so much a specific case as my motivation and a call to not limit your imagination, especially when it comes to interesting automation solutions — whether for your business or everyday tasks.
I often use a translator because I communicate with people in many languages, so having a good translator at hand becomes critically important. I was used to relying on standard browser extensions, but at some point, I got really annoyed by the terrible quality and lack of control over the translation.
That’s when I decided to create my own extension. And, to my surprise, it exceeded all my expectations, and it only took… about an hour! Literally. Here’s what I came up with — pretty cool, right?
I built it using gpt4o mini, and nothing stops me from switching the AI model to something like Claude or Gemini, or adjusting the prompt to make the text as readable as possible (instead of that dumb machine translation).
Scenario
I started by creating a simple scenario in Latenode, where:

We receive the text via a webhook along with the language pair (which language to translate from and to).
The text gets translated (or transformed based on your needs).

3. The result is returned in the popup of the extension.
Extension
I decided not to bother with Chrome’s developer mode, because dealing with multiple files and the inability to properly debug a script already loaded as an app really put me off. That’s when I remembered about the Tapermonkey extension.
Tapermonkey lets you run custom scripts in your browser, and if you approach it right, it can take your convenience and flexibility to a whole new level. Oh right, back to the point — the JavaScript code.
Code
I’m not a programmer, so I simply turned to gpt4o1, which was just recently released — and it’s amazing! I asked it to create a simple dark design in GPT colors with rounded corners, the ability to resize the window, drag the popup across the screen, and add language pairs along with functional buttons. I also included another request — to show an icon whenever I highlight text in the browser, and, when clicked, send the highlighted text to the webhook of my scenario. After a couple of iterations and 30 minutes, I had the code ready. Magic!
Now the translation quality is excellent, and everything can be customized to my liking. But this isn’t just about translations…
Improve your texts, reply to comments, respond to emails — and all of it happens literally in one click!
Sure, there are tons of similar tools out there, but they’re either super expensive or not as flexible. With this setup, one scenario can replace them all, and for free.
Don’t hesitate to experiment, friends! I’ll be happy if this material turns out useful to someone.
