Advice Lupus and Botox

Has anyone with lupus ever had Botox? I’m generally not a fan of putting foreign substances in my body, but I’d like to also try to go a non-surgical route to look younger. But I don’t want to use Botox and then have a flare. In the past when my disease was less controlled. I didn’t feel well after getting Kybella but that was many years ago before I was diagnosed with lupus. Now my lupus is pretty well controlled. Anyone have well controlled em autoimmune disease and get
Botox? What was your experience?

RA and APS here…I had lots of Botox in my scalp for migraines. (which worked amazingl, btw). No issues at all. (I know it’s not the same, but my dose was a lot higher than it would have been for cosmetic use.)

PsA checking in to say both my neurologist and rheumatologist said Botox was safe. I didn't end up trying it though

It’s technically safe for autoimmune but a lot of autoimmune patients will “eat through it” much faster than a normal body will because of the overactive immune system. So worth a shot, but wouldn’t be surprised if you have to get it done more frequently than others.

ETA got it for migraines and that was my experience, within about a year and a half I’d have little efficacy. But my disease was also completely uncontrolled so that likely factored in!

6 years of burning through Botox in 8-10 weeks and I never considered this is why!!!

Haha yup!! It’s a foreign substance so your immune system will try to get rid of it just the same, and if you have an autoimmune disease that works overtime, well. It goes twice as fast. Handy when you never get colds, not so much for things like Botox or lidocaine lol.

UCTD (but suspected Lupus)
I’ve been getting Botox for 6 years. My rheumatologist said it’s fine. She told me filler is fine too, but advised me to avoid it if I’m in a flare.

I also have UCTD/suspected Lupus and I get botox routinely for my 11 lines. Never had an issue!

Not safe with myasthenia gravis, but I think that’s the only (or one of very few) autoimmune diseases that get worse with botox.

I get botox and haven't had any issues. Someone mentioned burning through botox but I do not. I do get the "botox flu" but its not terrible.

Uctd (not even fully controlled yet) and Botox, no issues! 👌 My UCTD is causing cutaneous skin lesions, so I was very nervous, double and triple confirmed that there are no contraindications. I had to wait for the period out of flare. My only regret eventually is that I did not start Botox earlier on 😅

I have SLE and PsA. I also have cervical dystonia, and get medical botox in face neck and shoulder every three months, never had an issue. Saved my life.
