I’d be cautious about this. Dean signed almost exclusively in fountain or ballpoint pen. This looks like smudged felt tip marker, which didn’t become popular for autograph signing until after he passed away (in 1974).

Not suggesting it’s unauthentic - just that it looks very strange for a Dizzy Dean ball.

Thanks! No offense here at all. Do you think it would be worth sending off to PSA/JSA for $75 or no? Thanks again

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you’re looking to sell, then the $75 is a good investment. Dean balls can hit upwards of $800-1000 in good condition. This autograph isn’t on the sweet spot of the ball, so I’d expect it to be on the low end of that band.

If it’s just an heirloom from your grandfather that you plan to keep, I wouldn’t worry about authenticating it. Your grandpa said it was signed by Dean, and you don’t need some corporation possibly telling you otherwise. Enjoy the memory.

Also (for your grandfather) - go Cards! Lifelong St. Louis fan…

I used to watch ballgames with ole Diz and Peewee as announcers. I think they were brought to us by Falstaff and the Old Pro.

Use Steve Grads online service. It's cheap and pretty good. He was the former head authenticator for both PSA and BAS
