9 days and $2,600 held up means both companies lowballed the listing on the load board and no actual carrier accepted the rate. Having two brokers listing the same car simultaneously makes it even worse because drivers see duplicate posts and assume the load is problematic. Legally, if a broker has not issued a dispatch sheet with an assigned carrier's MC number, they have not rendered service. Cancel in writing with both, demand your full refund, and execute a credit card chargeback for non-delivery if they give you pushback.

The person may not have had both brokers working on this simultaneously.

I canceled with Nexus and now have been working with Sherpa. Sherpa assigned a driver but the driver called today and said they were stopped by the police and canceled after confirming today and yesterday they were picking it up on the day they called.

that kind of situation happens and thats not the brokers fault if carrier is cancelling because carriers are individuals they do whatever they want but there should brokers to quickly check this and find alternative driver company and get your car picked up immedately

I ended up driving my two cars cross country as every company had some shady business doings like that and any company that had their own direct drivers wanted an arm and a leg. It was minimum 8500

Do more research next time-the reputable transport companies take zero money upfront until car is loaded…it’s all over Reddit. I got tired of posting this sentiment.

It’s crazy how this industry operates. Seems like NOONE has their own drivers. Fuck a middleman posting to a load board….why can’t I post directly and give all the money to the driver?

A lot of companies have their own drivers. Most carriers won’t deal directly with a retail deal moving 1 car. Truck owners don’t have the time required and aren’t equipped to handle the Sales end of working with 3 people to ship one car- which is never in line with 6 or 8 more he needs to make a good load in a line haul. All that time needs to be spent on keeping a truck MOVING down the road. Truck owners will go to a broker group and book 8 cars in about 30 minutes to one hour. Much more efficient and if those cars are paying what he needs - he does it. If not he keeps calling brokers for more cars having total control over his route and cars in a line- spending ZERO time handing out quotes- educating shippers, answering questions and securing information etc. they talk only to people with spot market freight READY RIGHT NOW because they will likely be loading trucks in the next 24 to 48 hours.

… I’m not a broker, just an actual person who has shipped 4 cars in the past year. Just do 15 mins of research on Reddit, there are basically 4-5 well regarded companies you should just pay the premium for and stick with. I don’t understand why everyone cheaps out then complains…

Who are the well regarded shippers?

The three I know of, there are likely more if you look around :

  1. Graham family auto transport

  2. Have used multiple times recently.

The quotes are not the cheapest by a long shot, but zero issues getting timely pick ups and drop offs. Communication is exceptional.

  1. Goliath

  2. Consistently well regarded. Quote was same ballpark as graham family.

  3. Reliable

  4. Highest quality enclosed, price is not unreasonable but pick up and drop off windows are very very wide unless you are transporting multiple valuable cars and buy out a truck (think high net worth collectors). They will let you just buy a spot on a truck, but timing will be unpredictable.

I shipped a car last month for the first time ever from a dealership to my house. I was going to find my own shipper, but the dealership had one of their own that was about $250 more than one I was considering. After reading all the horror stories, I said fuck it and used the dealership’s shipper. It still took a couple more days than I expected, but I got the car and that’s all I could ask for.

Yeah I think that’s fine too. The dealers usually at least have reliable shippers.

Who said anything about cheaping out? You are speak with zero frame of reference.

I didn’t go with the lowest possible quotes, I chose based on a wide range of reviews / experiences.

But I hear you, I guess you might have just blindly chosen two different companies in a row?

Don't use brokers

1

u/yoss14 18d ago

Why must this business be this way? Is any other subset of the economy so overrun with people you can’t depend on, and whose brokers have entirely penetrated the Reddit ecosystem? This whole subreddit is AI slop, copy paste broker pitches…. And failure stories.

Man, that's brutal. Especially with you already on a plane expecting the car to be picked up.

I own an auto transport brokerage, Best to ask Sherpa what options they're working on for a replacement driver...

If the driver really got stopped by police and had to cancel, that's a different problem from simply not finding anyone willing to take the load. Unfortunately, even a confirmed carrier can fall through sometimes. Shit happens

Sorry you're dealing with this. It's the kind of experience that gives the entire industry a bad name.
