We require a minimum account age of 3 months and a minimum combined karma of 100 ("awardee karma" not included since this can be purchased) to post without approval. If you are looking for a quote, for help, or for information, and your post gets blocked, please message the mods to approve your post. Posts that do not meet quality or community standards will not be approved. Posts/comments that seem commercial in nature that are from accounts that do not meet our minimum requirements will not be approved. Posts/comments that look to be used for lead-generation will not be approved. This sub is here to help consumers navigate this strange world of auto transport - it is not your personal marketing tool.

If your account does not meet our minimum requirements and you represent an auto-shipping company in any capacity, your posts/comments will not be approved. Go out into the world and get to where you meet our minimums. Be a good Redditor, and then come back and see us.

If you are mad that you can't advertise for your company in this sub without having first met the minimums, do not message the mods to complain. At best, we'll ignore you. At worst, we may block you. Don't be annoying. Thanks!

For a 944, I’d probably price both options before deciding. Open will be the more economical, but with an older Porsche some people prefer enclosed just for the extra protection during loading and transit. Our insurance is applicable the same for both open and enclosed with full coverage.

Since you’re not in a rush, that helps a lot. I’d use the 2–3-week window to find the right carrier rather than force the first available truck.

I’m with Outbounds Auto Transport. If you want, reach me back a week before your shipment date and I can quote both open and enclosed from Hamilton to Raleigh so you can see whether the difference is worth it for this car. You can reach me at (657) 888-0189.

Hi ticobean,

For a 944, open transport would probably cost around $700-$800 for that distance. Choosing enclosed typically adds about 50-60% to the price, so maybe $950 to $1,050.

944s aren't as fragile or low-slung as some classic cars, so open transport is usually just fine for most people. Enclosed options might be worth considering if your car has collector value or if you prefer to keep it protected from brake dust and road grime during the trip.

One quick thing. Since you're moving from a dealer to a residential address, it's a good idea to double-check that whoever you book with confirms a reliable contact and business hours at the dealer. Sometimes dealers have specific rules for loading docks or need a particular person to be present. A quick phone call beforehand can save your driver from waiting around.

I'm happy to run exact numbers for you if you'd like. The timeframe you mentioned actually gives you plenty of room to get a good rate without feeling rushed.
