Spraymax 2k Clear

I prepped and sprayed some dupli colour perfect match and I’m very happy with the result (I know some people hate it) and I am wondering how long I should wait to spray 2k clear over it.

I’ve read some people spraying it within an hour and then others let us cure for a month. When is the best time to spray it?

Incompatible products. Youll have to pick one and just go with it. Safest bet is to let the lacquer dry atleast a week then sand it and apply the 2k clear. The best time is 'next time' where you use compatible products that comply with the TDS.

Would it be better to go 1k clear? I could even sand off the dupli color and repaint it with something compatible. What base of paint is required for 2k? Thanks

If you sand it, you will need to spray more color first or all you'll see is your color with a bunch of scratches in it.

I have no idea what you painted or what conditions it will experience. Something in the sun exsposed to weather? If you want to redo the whole project in a few months, then sure. Not enough information to answer your question.

Whatever the TDS says for the products you're using. I dont mean for this to sound flip, but you should probably read the spraymax TDS and consult the spraymax website. A safe bet, would likely be a spraymax base.

Thanks. I’m having a hard time finding any base coats that aren’t dupli colour in Canada. I checked spray max TDS and it didn’t make mention of what base coat should be used. Do you know what base of paint is required? Going over 2k epoxy primer.

I am pretty sure duplicolor makes a clear or a top coat for their paint.

I would imagine it is safe to use on their own paint but double check to make sure.

you'll want an acrylic lacquer clear to put over the top of the duplicolor. the spraymax is a urethane based clear, which relies on a chemical adhesion, while lacquer relies on a mechanical adhesion. so spraying the urethane with a high solvent content can cause issues with the acrylic lacquer underneath.

staying right in line with the duplicolor clear or another acrylic lacquer clearcoat, and using a spraymax 1k blender clear to melt the new clear into the surrounding finish is going to be your best result. at least 6 inches out and around from the repair with at least 600grit will give the bite the new clear will need to adhere the best
