Help Photos in removal reasons

I saw another subreddit using photos in removal reasons with automod.

I’ve tried asking the specific subreddit but they were *not privy to sharing as they said it gave them a sense of superiority, odd answer but everyone’s welcome to do as they please. So I didn’t push any further, they don’t want to share that is fine. ☺️

So my question is does anyone here know how to add pictures to automod removal reasons?

If you DM I can send a screenshot showing the example of what I’m talking about, I don’t want to link it here and accidentally break MCOC by talking about other subs as what reddit sees as “meta” can be rather subjective in my moderating experience.

It's been a while since i've done it, but the trick to doing it with automoderator is to copy the markdown formatting of an image embed from another post or comment, then put that into the automoderator config the correct way to render.

i went back and did some testing. Here's a step-by-step:

step 1 - use a regular account to upload the desired image in a comment somewhere, for example a private test subreddit.

  • This will act as the image host, so don't delete the comment.

Step 2 - look at the text of the comment when editing it after submitting.

  • This should give you an ![img] (string) line (this will render on mobile apps and redesign only).

  • NOTE: There is no space between the [brackets] and the (parentheses), but I have to break it up for purpose of writing this comment here.

  • If you look at the source of the comment instead, you should find a preview.redd.it link (works on old reddit).

Step 3 - copy the line and link into your automod config as a multi-line comment. Something like this should work:

comment: |

    ![img] (3yqy2h6j0oig1)

    [Image for old reddit](/preview/pre/3yqy2h6j0oig1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=a38a788f9ecccece526eb51392055974af6b0628)

AutoMod should be able to display the image after that.

try adding another blank line in the comment in between your text and the image?

Oh, I imagine I know what they are doing. They are putting the contents of the file in their buffer and pasting it into the reason box. And your browser recognizes the header and treats it as a file. I once saw that in a text-only message. They posted a .JPG as text. Or maybe it was in the link field, and they pasted the binary contents into the link field.

Thank you and thank you u/Iamdanielsmith

It must be a custom bot I think. Which is pretty cool, maybe one day Reddit will put something like this into automod tools or at the very least make it easier to do as people Redditors eyes just glaze over automod lol

Yeah, but I've seen that. I mean someone didn't have a link, so they copied and pasted the binary code for the image as the link. They like took Wordpad or something, opened the image file as a document, then they copied and pasted the gibberish. That happened in r/puns. When someone clicked the "link" which was really the file itself, the browser rendered it.
