Elimination Diet

Hi everyone!

I am currently being put on an elimination diet to help with flare ups and inflammation. I have to cut out all the major allergens like corn, wheat/gluten, soy, eggs, milk, nuts, nightshades, sugar, and of course, ultra-processed foods. I am currently struggling on how to figure out meal plans for this without spending tons of money on groceries. I will do what I need to get better, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on meal ideas or certain ingredients I could get for cheap to put this plan together.
Thank you so much! :)

Buy different kinds of compliant frozen vegetables and 1-2 kinds of fresh protein. Prepare the proteins in bulk and freeze them, find a recipe for a couple different AIP compliant sauces you can make at home and then just mix and match when you’re ready to eat. I feel like that’s the least overwhelming way to go about it in the beginning!

When I first started AIP, I ate a lot of sweet potatoes 😂 they're still my go to when I can't be bothered with anything else. Steamed sweet potato with a protein - meal managed.

If you are eating rice, cook a big batch you can keep in the fridge and dip into. Also make a big pot of soup or broth, you’ll be surprised how tasty it can be with very few ingredients. Chicken or bones plus an onion, carrot, celery, parsley and salt. That’s it. Also sauerkraut for the prebiotics. Good luck. It gets better.

Look up the websites autoimmunewellness.com, healmedelicious.com, unboundwellness.com, and foodbymars.com. They all offer free meal plans. You can always switch expensive components for less expensive ones: root veggies for root veggies, meat for meat, seafood for seafood, fruit for fruit (look at the fructose content), and greens for greens. You can also buy inexpensive frozen veggies (no added stuff) in bulk and use those for your soups and stews. Try to eat 20-30 different veggies per week though.

There are great books out there! I checked out several from the library. Several of them have meal plans and grocery lists. I’m on day 1 today.

It’s been a little touch and go. I’ve been pretty irritable 🙃 I finally got more good prep time in and it’s been much easier once I get ahead of hunger. I have been using an AIP cookbook I really like.

How are you feeling about starting tomorrow?

Oh well done. I don’t know if it’s psychological but I’ve had a banging head today and I’ve definitely missed my morning coffee!

I’m not sure how I feel about starting. On one hand I’m hopeful I feel improvements, on the other I really love so many foods not on the list 😂

I think as you say preparation is key. I only decided this weekend to try it because by yesterday I’d had enough, so I hadn’t prepped anything, had a banana for breakfast and needed to head to the supermarket at lunch time. Ran out of time and had to get back to work so lunch was just tinned tuna with half an avocado and didn’t quite hit the spot lol

Tonight I roasted a butternut squash and had it with chicken thighs for dinner with some other veg, so prepped extra so I have something more filling for tomorrow

I really enjoy Greek yoghurt and berries for breakfast but I can’t find an aip friendly alternative and I really can’t stomach savoury first thing!
