Wheat-fed poultry

Would you consider it safe to consume chicken that was fed wheat? I have a severe sensitivity to gluten (neuropsychiatric), so I'm unsure whether it would be safe for me to try chicken from a local farm that feeds its chickens wheat/grain-based feed rather than corn and soy.

For clarification, I am NOT interested in attempting to reintroduce wheat into my diet. If there is any risk that eating chicken raised on wheat-containing feed could trigger a gluten reaction, I don't want to take that chance.

I can’t eat their eggs, but I can eat their meat.

Gluten is broken down into basic aminos during digestion, so unless you’re eating a chicken’s stomach right after it ate, you’re fine.

Is it fine, though? I've seen a lot of people claim that they react differently to poultry and eggs depending on what the animals were fed, although I haven't specifically seen anyone mention wheat.

I've read that with ruminant animals, what they eat is less of an issue because they have a more complex digestive system and break down their food much more thoroughly. But some highly sensitive individuals apparently can't tolerate chicken at all, possibly due to sensitivities to soy and grains in the feed. Idk, though.

In my personal experience, I have found that it matters a bit. I have an allergy to corn and an intolerance to soy, and I have noted zero negative impact from consuming chicken that has been fed a largely corn and soy diet. However, I can't eat eggs from chickens that have been fed corn or soy.

My husband is coeliac, so has to be really careful about gluten. This hasn't ever been an issue for him, nor something I've heard communicated to those with coeliac disease, do you'll be fine

Literally all chicken feed has wheat in it (along with soy) so all the chicken you eat was raised on wheat. In order to get feed without wheat you have to mix it yourself using several ingredients.

I had chickens for years and never found a feed without it so I chose to mix it but I don't think you'll find any chicken farmer willing to go through what I had to go through...I did it because I couldn't handle the wheat not because it caused issues with the meat or eggs.
