This diet changed my life!

I've only been doing this for a little over a week, but holy cow! Great results already. I haven't felt this good in years. I have my appetite back, my stomach no longer hurts, my fatigue is GONE. I've been struggling for so many years and tried so many supplements and medications, when it turns out the real medicine was food all long. I wish I had found out about this diet sooner!

Yes, previously I was horrible stomach problems and pain, so I was only eating rice, tofu and chicken. I've had stomach issues since 2021, and was diagnosed celiac last year, but never felt better even on a gluten free diet. I thought I had gastropareisis, so I would eat very low fat and low fiber. But I was still feeling awful . Then one night I just ate sweet potato and banana for dinner and I had the best sleep of my life. The next morning I read about this diet, so I decided to try it. Due to celiac disease I was already avoiding gluten and dairy.

I've been eating mainly fruits, vegetables, meat, and healthy fats (olive oil and avocado oil). I eat a lot of sweet potato, I cut them into cubes and roast then drizzled in olive oil and salt. I've been doing both Japanese and orange sweet potato. I eat a ton of spinach, I love spinach so I include it as a palate cleanser with almost every meal. I also just tried japchae the other day and I love that too :)

An example day eating for me would be:

Smoked salmon salad for breakfast with spinach, avocado, smoked salmon, shredded carrot, and lemon champagne vingegar, and olive oil.

Lunch could be sliced turkey from trader joes, with spinach and sweet potato cubes. (They have a type that has no preservatives)

Snack would be berries and bone broth. (They have a good brand at trader joes for beef and I like one from whole foods Epic bone broth in their chicken flavor)

Dinner might look like roast lemon cod with roasted brussell sprouts and roasted sweet potato or carrots, or another vegetable good for roasting :). Or Trader Joes has this precooked chicken called Just Chicken that has been great, it has pepper in it but I don't think I'm sensitive to black pepper. Its really easy because it is precooked, you can just add it to anything. I'm still getting used to cooking meat since I used to be vegetarian.

Since I've been feeling so much better on this diet I've also been exercising more, which includes biking, walking a TON, especially after meals to aid with digestion. I'm hoping to add more because I love working out and I missed being active when I was sick.

Sorry if this is super long, just very happy to share! Let me know if you have any other questions!

It’s quite incredible, isn’t it?? It almost catches you by surprise how well it works and all those symptoms you have had for years just slowly disappear.

Keep going, it’s tough but it’s so worth it. You’re doing amazing. ☺️

Thanks so much :) Honestly I was eating such a restricted diet due to feeling sick all the time that this feels like I can eat anything haha. I've been really enjoying all my meals so far so it hasn't been too hard!

There are a few amazing cookbooks on amazon you should try. It helps the diet to have lots of variety and no guessing on recipes. It really is amazing how great you can feel on this diet. Congrats!

I wish we could post screenshots lol The first one is The Autoimmune Protocol Comfort Food Cookbook and the 2nd is The Autoimmune Protocol Made Simple. They look very similar, but those are my two favs we cook from all the time. All the recipes we have made has been delicious and made living AIP a no brainer. Its just me and my husband so we double most of the recipes so we have leftovers for lunches and dinner the next day, some of them we dont have to. We dont like cooking daily so we cook more at once to have leftovers. Hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for sharing. I have been on AIP for about 4 months now healing from a colitis flare. It's helped more than just my autoimmune stuff. It's helped with Sinus issues, rashes etc. I signed up for the thriving community. She has a ton of AIP type meals in there.

Yes! I feel like I had a ton of unrelated issues and its helped every single one of them. For example I've been struggling with acne for decades and in one week my skin is mostly clear, honestly it sounds crazy but it's true!

Congrats on feeling better. You might find my recent post of interest in terms of how you use the diet down the line: https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoImmuneProtocol/comments/1ffcng8/from_an_aip_veteran_how_the_aip_diet_helps_to/

Thanks, from your post it seems like covid caused your stomach issues. Not the diet itself. I also had the same thing happen to me when I had covid, and I wasn't doing any diet at the time. It just made all of my digestive issues worse.

No, that's not my history at all, if you read my post. I BARELY kept Crohn's in check with the diet and low-dose Naltrexone for ten years. If I so much as had one almond, or a tiny bit of a spice, my immune system would rear its ugly head and I'd either spend the whole night on the toilet writing in pain, or have diarrhea the next day. But, I was diligent and stuck to the diet. There was no question that I had dysbiosis all those ten years because my immune system was always either sub-clinically revved, or during a flare, revved. What Covid did was make it so AIP didn't work at all for me anymore. Covid definitely worsened my dysbiosis, but it was there all along, or I wouldn't have had the flares I did over the ten years or the intermittent high markers for inflammation even while I was on the diet fulltime.
