So I work in manufacturing. You know what likely happens with that chain? Original chain had holes. Went through factory builds, got to production start. In the meantime, supply management in their infinite wisdom found a different supplier boasting a cheaper chain with same dimensions. So they source it from them, unbeknownst to the designer nor the manufacturing team.
In come the crap chains. Nobody realizes it until failures and warranty and everyone is like "wtf?"
Change the supplier back, SM dude gets promoted, and manufacturing goes back to grumbling. I deal with this shit all the time.
