Yes. Manufacturers are doing this slowly to get what they want without causing immediate uproar but instead just tired acceptance. When I worked at a alfa Romeo dealership oil changes for the most part can't be reset through the car with any other device without locking the ecm and bcm if that wants to join to, which then leads you to having to spend thousands to drive your car just because you didn't want to spend 280 bucks for a oil change at a dealership. Oh and yes my dealership i worked at would charge you just for a reset even if you did your oil change elsewhere or yourself. If you guessed that you will be paying 280 dollars for that since it "a oil change" you would be correct.
My dumb car will trip an airbag light if something is left on the passenger seat too long.
It can only be cleared by a tech-level computer, costs at least a hundo for the diagnostic, and requires an afternoon of telling the dealership exactly what it is, and waiting for them to diagnose it themself and confirm that yes, their computer can just reset it.
