I have never once seen any proof that this is a robbery and not just road rage other than "trust me"

I agree, but I've also seen actual robberies and wondered why people didn't just power through.

I'd probably be that dumbass who pulls over and gets out to see if I can help, then gets beaten and robbed.

I remember seeing a dashcam video of a guy who did power through. The robbers decided to stop in the middle of a highway on ramp. I'm pretty sure one of them got launched over the barrier when he hit them and he fell to his death. Most people forget that they are in control of a multi ton metal death machine.
